What to use when wrapping alum. around a drop-in?
I just started using thicker foil from frozen dinners and am pleased with the result.I have been using aluminum foil but sometimes it's a pain to get back in after changing a drop in.I also have used foil faced duct tape but have been advised against that because the thick adhesive actually acts as an insulator.Try the thick stuff, works well for high power drop ins.
I used this copper foil (be sure to get the thicker stuff - this is 5mil). Seller is great, quick delivery and well packaged. It's my understanding that you don't want the stuff with adhesive because the adhesive will restrict heat transfer somewhat. I wrapped 2 coils of this copper sheeting in my fake L2 with Ultrafire 3 mode drop-in and the drop-in required a slight push to squeeze it in. I have not left it on long enough to check the heat transfer through the body though. I used it on my bike once, but it was a cool evening and I was riding with it on.

I just did that and wrapped very tight and had to put on table and put my weight on it to get it in.
Really gets hot fast.
Yes sir! that's the effect you are looking for as long as the heat is wicked away from the led, your drop in will live longer.
I cut strips from an aluminum soda can after using a scouring pad to remove the print from the aluminum. If no soda can then aluminum foil. Haven’t used the frozen dinner aluminum yet since I almost never have any around. All the frozen dinners I’ve had of late use plastic trays.
