Hello and Thank You from Cebu, the Philippines!

I’ve been a long time flashlight user, since the good ol’ incandescent days. My first LED light was a single AAA light with a name ‘cree 3W’ etched on the side. It wasnt that much bright, surely less than 50 lumens. Then I was introduced to the Led Lenser series, got the K1, then the P3, and then the P5 and finally the P7 model.

Few years later, I ‘upgraded’ to the CR123A model, the Olight i1, purchased March of 2011. Oh boy, was I blown away with it. I still have it today with me today as my keychain light. Got a Jetbeam PC10 and that totally blew me miles away (sadly it got stolen while I was asleep at the office sleeping lounge).

I admit I was afraid of the higher capacity batteries, the 14500 and the 18650, but since my i1 was powered by RCR123, and so far nothing happened, I gave the 14500 a try. I then got the Olight S15 (purchased May 2013), which, again, blew me away. And as most of you know, this sort of thing, it never stops. The never ending urge and craving for something more, it does not end.

I’ve been wanting and searching for the ‘perfect’ flashlight/EDC for me. For a long time I’ve searched CPF for a flashlight that has a high lumen rating, no side switch, has moonlight-low-med-high with no strobe (or at least hidden) and a design I really like, and is powered by either AA/14500 or CR123A/RCR123/18350 cell. I got excited with the ‘upgraded’ version of the Nitecore MT1A, the MT10A, but the side switch is just a huge drawback for me. I wished they only upgraded the LED, and kept everything, but they did not, so no Nitecore for me.

I don’t know what happened but I landed here in BLF, thankfully, of course. All the information available here, all recommendations of a budget flashlight, discount codes, guidance, all friendly forum members, everything, it felt like I just entered a flashlight ‘heaven’, and then i discovered the BLF A6. Oh boy, oh boy. Unfortunately, it runs on a single 18650 cell… Was not brave enough for it…

But the light is absolutely perfect! 2 modes i can choose from, memory OFF or ON and a tailcap switch!

Everyday I report to the office, I read several threads about 18650 lights, how to be safe around 18650, just about anything to do with 18650 cells.

And then the Astrolux S1 came into view. With the 18350 tube, I fell inlove. I was like, I gotta have this. I have to. Long before I can purchase it, my girlfriend bought one for me.

And the rest is history.

Now, I have a friend who has an S1 with the 5A and I have the 3D. My GF also loves the S1, so I got her the 18350 blue version.

My friend and I started to do night walks. With our flashlights with the S1 lights as our primary light. This is how we enjoy out light. Nature + darkness = opportunity to use the S1s.

Thank you to everyone here in BLF. Had it not for you guys, I wouldn’t have found the perfect edc. M4D M4X, and to everyone here who helped create the perfect EDC light, I really thank you.

facebook group is Cebu White Walkers. Check us out.

Welcome to blf! Oops, i mean welcome back to blf. Regarding 18650 batteries, i think this is the safest size li ion battery since it has the most uses from
Laptop batteries to automotives.
This is also the most developed
Size with improvements in both capacity and safety. As long as you are using branded ones, i fell more safer on 18650 than a cr123

I hope you have fun here, kamote1half!

Welcome. This is a great place to learn about flashlight stuff.

Thank you. Yes, this place really is a great place to learn so many things about flashlight and other related to it. What i like about BLF is that you learn so much and what you read, you really understand. Members don’t throw jargons at you, they say things that an ordinary person, even a newbie will fully understand.

hi kamote1half, are you also a member of Philippine Flashlight Enthusiasts?

No, I am not. I didn’t know that such group exists.

Cebu is a beautiful area of the Philippines. I’ve been there a few times. I worked with Book of Hope and spoke in some of the schools there. I also was part of a basketball team that traveled through the area doing exhibition games. It was a good experience!

Well, now you know. hehehe… I would like to invite you to join our facebook group too… Salamat at may nakita din akong pinoy dito sa forum… hehehe…

Nice pare. What’s the FB page? I can’t find Philippine Flashlight Enthusiasts page on FB or the internet.

The complete name of the group is Philippine Flashlight Enthusiast - Nitecore, Fenix, Klarus, Olight etc.

Kitakits tol! :+1:
