Hi, I'm Joerg from Germany and I've been reading this forum since quite a while ago. Thanks to all of you I'm totally addicted to flashlights now;-)
It all started with a Jetbeam Jet III Pro ST BVC some years ago. Since then, I got a Tank007 E09 and E19, Lumintop Tool, Ultratac K18, Convoy S2+, M1, 2x C8, BLF Kronos X5 and some Small Sun ZY-R804. I got the Convoys in parts and built them myself using standard Nanjg 105c drivers. In search for more lumens I then started modding some of these lights: One of the C8s got a FET+1 driver from MTN as well as a XP-L HI on Noctigon for which I measure 6.4A on start using a VCT5A. The S2+ got upgraded to a Triple-219C using also a FET+1 driver. Using an Efest Purple IMR I measure a current of 14.5A! Unfortunately, it gets hot very quickly, so I've programmed the turbo timer to 20s. I'm not really satisfied with the Carclo 10507 optics which should yield a narrow beam but is far to wide for my taste. Are there other options resulting in more narrow beams?
Hi Joerg, welcome!
Can’t help much with the optics. I have an identical S2+ Triple and like the wide beam of the Carclo 10507. I also have a triple S2+ with this optic and XP-L HI U6 3A, here the beam is a bit narrower. I can’t see much difference in tint compared to the 219C Triple, but it gets less hot and has a bit more output.
It’s a 35mm optic so it’s too big for the M1 and too small for the C8. I mention the X6 because for any of them you will need a spacer and a few members can supply them for the X6. The Noctogon 32 fits this optic.
In comparison to my triple 219C/S2+, if I would build the same triple again but using a bigger host, e.g. a X6, would this increase the possible run-time on turbo significantly until it gets too hot?
This helps a lot, thanks. Given the XP-L HI has a narrower beam than my 219c using the 10507, there should be a considerable difference between 219c/10507 and XP-L HI/Cute-3-SS beams.
