Hello from New Delhi, India.

Beam O : Not similar eh, OK then - perfect excuse to get the OTR! Heh!

Next stop : find something that has a deeper reflector and a longer throw, been looking at more Convoy models but a few seem sold out now.

Kinda off topic : what are your thoughts about the 7 led SkyRay king light on GB as a mega flooder? The reviews on GB sound rather promising, but then all their reviews need to be taken with a spoon of salt. I read it’s bulkier, a handful and cramming multiple leds in a lamp is counter productive - but the lure of a 20 buck 5000+ lumen light is too strong. :-/

Convoy C8 with XP-L HI or the Convoy L2 or the Maxtoch 2x XML2 U4 dedomed and you’re done in the throw department.

Cheers guys, just wanted to update you all - the blue s2+ is coming home along with the dual Bay litto kalla charger. By the time I asked about the batteries, my order was already shipped, rather quick I must note, so that’s that.

Now I’ve asked them If they’ll ship it inside the cheapo SkyRay if I order one of those, it’s gonna cost me more just to get batteries here.

Here’s the SkyRay : http://m.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_149047.html

Have a great weekend!

Ps:I never heard back from the Gearbest rep on here.

Joining the others for a friendly welcome!

Thanks MG!

There is no 20$ 5000 lumen light .

not too many people have any need for a 5000 lumen light anyway .
I’d wait for the GLF Q8 group buy before buying a cheap unmoddable bad srk clone .

Sounds like the major problem could be getting batteries .
nimh batteries are 1.2~1.45volts and it takes3.7 ~4,2volts to run a modern led emitter … so you may see lights that will use 3 AAA batteries but the leds output will generally crush these little batteries .to get real power you need to feed the beast .18650s are really pretty great .Hopefully they will figure out how to ship cells again . the same thing happened a couple years ago too .

A convoy c8 would be a good thrower for you. Not to big will throw a few hundred yards stock. Modified can reach out around 700 yards. If you bought one directly from the owner Simon on aliexpress he would more then likely ship you a cell inside the light

As far as batteries go India has to be full of laptop computers. India amazon has to have new laptop batteries for sale. Usually around $15-25$ in america for 6-9 batteries. Just disassemble and you have batteries. As I said above it would be more expensive you can go into a e cigarette store and buy these batteries as a last resort. India has to have vapor/ecig stores. Or you can purchase a power bank and disassemble it for 18650 batteries. Or you have someone from another country try to send them to you and see if it makes it through customs before doing more.

Boaz and speed4goal : after considering your opinions about the SkyRay, I have decided to save my 29 bucks and put them somewhere worthwhile, the glf q8 is a thread I’m following closely.

Dhaval,a member here, who is from India too also suggested the powerbank mode. We can get the original MI banks here for a reasonable price - might go that route now. The 2o,ooo mah one comes fitted with 3.4 mah batteries, so that’s a bonus.

Is it advisable to use unprotected batteries with the s2+?

I don’t want to do laptop batteries simply because I don’t have access to a multimeter, would rather buy a brand new powerbank and harvest that to be on the safer side.

Laptop batteries = power bank batteries = unprotected batteries. Best used with a multimeter and a good charger. Usually not a problem in single battery lights if you don’t run them all the way down.

I editted my post but you had already replied. If you buy a c8 or convoy s2 from Simon directly he will probably ship you a cell inside your light. He sells cells to I believe.

The power bank route is good, what I mean by laptop batteries is replacement ones like new replacement ones. They make them with new batteries. Like your computer battery wears out so you purchase a replacement battery for them. They are all over amazon. That powerbsnk will provide higher mah batteries and a known brand. Most laptop batteries are around 2600mah some higher some less.

Unprotected cell is fine in the convoy lights they have low voltage protection around 3.0/volts the light will start blinking around 2.8 it will cut off. Max you want to discharge is 2.5 volts. Some lg cells go down to 2.0 but after 3.0 volts a cell has almost no useful power left in it

Don’t waste money on a skyrayking, a c8/s2 7135x8 is a much better purchase. I use my c8 more then my tube lights. Tube lights I usually use as a everyday carry. But I’ll still edc my ee x6 which is barely smaller then a c8. If a c8 had a clip I’d probably edc it. Just depends on what I’m doing for the day.

Word. Another good practice to prevent overdischarging is to stop using a li ion light as soon as it can no longer deliver max brightness on high/turbo. That is when you swap out cells or use the backup light. (You shouldn’t be on this forum of you don’t carry at least two lights  )

Look up li ion battery primer on the search function.

Have fun!

I can tell by the heat/output, when the light stops getting so hot I know the battery needs to be swapped out.

Thanks again guys!

I’m in luck, a friend is in the US currently and traveling back soon.

Can you recommend me a US site that can deliver within a week.

Links and discount code (if any) would be appreciated!

Imrbatteries.com they will get batteries to you in under a week. You should look into the travel limit. I don’t know how many the USA will allow in his luggage or India will allow coming in. Someone on here may know the USA travel limit.

Uh-ho, if there are restrictions in place, maybe it’s best to get the power bank and harvest the batteries.

I personally don’t know the restrictions but after 9/11 attacks there is w limit on everything. I believe lithium batteries and devicees have to be on your carry on. Someone who travels a lot may know more. I know liquids have to be 4oz or less or they are confiscated. They don’t allow enough of anything to make a bomb or anything out of.

I can remember days of getting on a plane with my pocket knife and it not being a problem. But I also remember when you could drive to q gas station and they would turn the pump on for you without having to prepay. Use to be able to carry drinks/water through security. There’s a armed federal marshal now on every flight dressed in civilian clothes so people can’t plot to overtake him
The rules are so ridiculous now I just drive whenever possible. I’ve had TSA grab my crouch. I’ve had a TSA approved lock on my luggage and when I land a 1/4th of my medication was missing. They cut your lock off if you don’t have a lock TSA has a master key for. TSA can kiss my ass for all I care. Sorry for the off topic air travel is pretty much ruined in America. There’s a drink machine literally feet from security, you buy a drink from the machine and 20ft later you have to throw it away its over 4ounces and not sealed

Here you go these are the regulations
https://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/hazmat_safety/more_info/?hazmat=7

So you’d probably be alright with a few cases of batteries. Imr usually ships every two batteries in a plastic case

Hey Speed, thanks for the links! This information will surely be helpful for my friend as well!

I’ll be ordering soon now! So the Panasonic 3400 mah protected batteries are good to go for or would you recommend something else?

I appreciate the help!

For the flashlights your considering the Panasonic’s will be fine. I prefer the unprotected versions. They fit better in more lights
