I’m a real noobie regarding flashlights. I got into it because of the need for light when I mountain bike at night.
I bought my first ones at the san diego fair from the vendor ulightla. They were 180 lm and I thought 2 would be sufficient. After having seen the $200+ lights with 1000lm that my friends were using, I new I had to step up but didn’t want to spend a lot of money. So I went on amazon and saw this 3800lm triple led trustfire for $40. It is a super bright light (brighter than my friend’s expensive light), but the ultrafire batteries really sucked and my light went out during the middle of our run. My friend mocked me for buying a $40 light…lol. so that just even increased my resolve to prove him wrong. I figured I just need to buy the panasonic batteries and ill be straight
So that’s where I’m at right now, in the group buy for the new 3400mah 18650’s.
Hopefully I learn a lot from you guys, and maybe even learn how to mod my light even further!
Welcome to the forum Brainhulk. I followed a similar path here. Started at mtbr when I built my ride (Titus) but modded my existing Vistalites to get those extra lumens. I love it here. Tired of the add laden SLOW pages there and the stuffy attitude at C*F, I stumbled on this great forum while researching budget drivers.
Welcome to BLF. Don't give up on flashlight as an alternative to dedicated bike lights. Two things for you to consider: 26650 cells - look at Shadow JM07, TF A8; some really nice bike lights are coming on the market, check out the Shadow BL-21: http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1640
