Just a quick hello. I live in Weardale, County Durham, UK. I’ve been mad about torches ever since I was a kid. I didn’t realise I had a serious habit until I counted how many torches I actually have! Aside from a couple of Maglites, which are in constant use - one AA Mini-Mag is over 25 years old and still going strong - the rest of my stuff is budget range.
I haven’t done any mods yet unless you count dropping in, well, drop-ins, but I’ve worked out what my first project’s going to be. It involves the first LED torch I bought, but it’s for a different topic.
In the meantime, I’ll lurk for a while to get the feel of the forum, although with what I’ve read up to now I’m sure I’ll like it and may even contribute, though I’ve got a long way to go to compete with you guys and gals. I’ve read posts on other forums which seem to deal with the big ticket torches but to be honest, I’d just like to play around, I mean experiment, with my budget ones and try to get the maximum photon density out of the front. of my toys.
Welcome Malc, you’ll love all the budget flashlights which can take the piss out of really stupidly expensive ones. And yes mate, your wallet will get it’s arse smacked while your hear, i know mine has.

Welcome to BLF Malc, and pay heed to the warnings about your wallet! It’s easy to get carried away, largely because modding is a bug that there’s no cure for, so once you get started you might have to pay someone to give you a knock in the head once in a while to slow you down.
Stick with simple drop-in’s and you’ll probably be ok. Start taking the lights apart and rebuilding them for improvements and you’re in big trouble!
