Hi everyone,
I seen the flashlight Bucket made for Mathew Walker and fell in love with it. I do some light machining at work and just bought the 8” lathe from Grizzly to play with. I enjoy making pens and I want to try and build a few flash lights as gifts for family members, hence my joining here. If anyone has any idea to help me get started I would really appreciate it.
Thanks everyone
Pat

I hope you enjoy your stay, hddriver1!

Hi and welcome. I'm looking forward to see what a grizzly lathe can turn out. I dont have a grizzly lathe but do get called grizzly quite a lot.
Theres quite a few builds here. Some of the most inspirational lights were built by match as well as a few others here.
I’ll be interested to see what the Grizzly lathe will turn out too. I mostly do pens but I am hoping I can do flashlights as well. I have a lot of research ahead of me.

Welcome to the forum, fellow Wisconsinite. Lake Geneva here. Love going to the outlets in Pleasant Prairie, especially The North Face.

Welcome from another home stater. I lived in Milwaukee for most of my life, until I moved to Northern California. I’m sure you will enjoy this great forum. There is plenty of build/mod/technical expertise floating around here.
Got the new Grizzly 8” lathe today. Tomorrow is cleaning day. woo hoo.

Welcome Pat! I for one am looking forward to what you come up with! It’s always good to see people using their talents in new, creative ways. But, IMHO, the easiest way to get started will probably be to take apart an exisitng flashlight and make a new host for the internals, rather than just buying a bunch of parts off the shelf and trying to make a host while flying blind. That way, you have the original host to take measurements from, so fitting everything back together is not a concern. Play around with changing one or two things at a time, to see what difference the changes make in the finished build, then move on to building from scratch. For more inspiration, look up the “Scratch Made Light Contest” in the search box at the top left of the page. We’ve had two of them so far (it’s an annual contest), and there are some very creative ways that people ended up building their lights.
