Help Building convoy c8

I would like help buying the parts to build a convoy c8.

I am open to various emitters but have to have the light be able to run on 2 cr123’s if needed

Help!

Hey mate what do you need?

id say first choose your emitter make sure its 20mm

Then choose your driver that has to be 17mm! Make sure it is a buck driver so it will limit the voltage to 3 volts!

Current is also up to you it really depends on how much you want to spend? Say for a standard buck driver you will probably get about 3amps max any thing more you would have to get to Mountain electronics?

This would be a cheap option.

Do you want extras like AR coated glass lens?

How crazy do you want to go on the build?

I am ok with crazy I just need the light to work with two cr123 batteries. Will the buck do that?

I would choose a Thorfire C8s, 6V compatible, and just swap the emmitter for the one of your choice

yea basically the buck driver regulates the voltage so the LED runs on 3v and you have say 6-7 volts at the battery so the buck converts that to 3 volts so you don not fry the LED.

+1 thorfire C8 and LED swap to XPL HI

Or xpg3 its good lol! Id have to agree with them if you only want standard amount of power that is the easiest cheapest option.

If you build the light your self it will cost more depending on what parts you buy of course.

I’m sorry but I have to ask. Why 2 cr123’s? Why not go with a single 18650 and charger and be done with it. Then you could build with a Qlite driver and emitter of your choice. As mentioned by everydaysurvivalgear you can get everything you need at Mountain Electronics.

That is fair question. I was going to use the light in my car and as I live in Phoenix it will be 118 degrees this weekend. The tempt inside my car can get as high as 145 or more. 18650 batteries cant last long at that temp. cr123 batteries can sustain much higher temps than 18650’s. It is simply practice. I keep my cool 18650 lights in the house.

why dont you just suggest a parts list that does not include the need for cr123a batteries. I can always get a single light like a thrunite.

I hear you about the temperature. I live in Canada and in the summer I don’t think I would leave an 18650 in the glove box either. Maybe others can chime in about that.

That said, a parts list for a 3 amp 18650 C8 includes:

Host

Driver
You can choose which firmware you like for modes. The standard firmware has low voltage cutoff but guppydrv is more versatile.

XP-L HI V2 3B if you like a more neutral tint. The V2 1A will be brighter.

For a battery, if you want protected 18650, some won’t fit in the Convoy C8 host. The only ones that fit are listed in the description of the host at the above link. You might have to remove the label if it is a tight fit.

If you are fine with an unprotected battery then LG MH1 or Samsung 30Q are both highly regarded.

You will also need a tiny amount of thermal compound to ensure good heat transfer from the led board to the integrated pill on the host. I use this stuff

A qlite or nanjg works fine with 2cr123 unmodified though. No need to spend so much for special buck driver.

Unless you decided to use rcr123 then that’s a no no
