Help me chose between Skilhunt EC150 or EC200 mini

That new led looks good - great tint, high CRI and a little bit better throw than 519a, still having nice floody near distance beam… if they give it to something like EC150 it would be great.

Problem is, Amazon in my country (or even EU Amazons) have limited offer of Skilhunt flashlights, and if you find one, price is crazy comparing to their official shop… and buying from china, and trying to return merchandise is unfortunately not that easy.
I know that low CRI flashlights are not as good - thats the reason I really like Nichia 519a… but throw in my Mix 7 is just miserable comparing to almost every other flashlight/headlamp I got.

1. Thanks - I didn’t know that but yes, Skilhunt SFT25R measures 5500k, whereas my Convoy T8’s SFT25R measure 5000k and 6500k. The Skilhunt 5500k doesn’t look good at all.
2. Agreed. Optics make a big difference in Duv, plenty evidence for this.

But I think there is a third reason, albeit I am an amateur so pls take with a grain of salt. SFT25R’s Duv becomes much more positive and the tint “exponentially” greener at lower power. The single SFT25R LED in Convoy T8 puts out ~1400 lm @ Turbo, whereas the 3 LEDs in Skilhunt total 1500 lm for 3 LEDs, 500 lm per LED. Low power, more positive Duv, and greener.

But enough talk sorry, time for some beam shots. I didn’t want to discuss EC150 because I couldn’t gather any enthusiasm for it and writing negative review is no fun (owners get upset). Please forgive me :slightly_smiling_face:.

I have four lights with 6500K sft25’s and they all have good tint. It’s icy white, but it is white and not green.

3 Thanks

Triple LED may be the case, but I think, the real problem is somewhere in between number of LED’s, optics and probably something else.
Anyway - anything above 6000K is too cold for me, and many lights about 5700K have some problems with tint.

One is 6,000 -6500 and the other is 6,000.

Both lights at the highest stepped level before Turbo. Pic taken with DSLR locked at 5000k, shot in raw.

Note that the Skilhunt SFT-25R is at a completely different CCT, 5500k. This is in between Convoy’s 5000k and 6500k, neither of which has a bad green tint.

1 Thank

To be honest - that beam of SFT25R is quite nice on Skilhunt… but as you said, it is really a little greenish - Convoy in terms of tint, looks way better.
If that LED, which @zak.wilson mentioned would show up in EC150 it would be a crazy good little flashlight.

You can always get some diffusion film from @Boaz to counter the green tint.

Could you take a picture with a filter you mentioned earlier (Zirkon 1/8 would be best, 1/4 also good). Just for comparison with original beam.

Thought you would never ask  . Yes of course I could; pictures already taken (I always document changes with beamshots). Sorry I’m busy now but will post later when I am home.

I tried Zircon 1/8, not enough for me so I switched to 1/4 and that will be the picture you’ll see.

BTW the background of picture above is the pure white cover of my garage door (had to do that because all the walls in my house is light beige). Picture taken in total darkness except flashlights. WB 5000k.

2 Thanks

So Im waiting with patience… and to be honest, that Zirkon 1/8 is the one Im most curious about

1 Thank

LOL I feel the “pressure”! That 1/8 piece should be around somewhere but I have extra 1/4 and 1/8 sheets anyway. I am really allergic to green, so I have extra sheets. Handy for my Sofirn lights   (ok I know… cheap shot).

BTW if someone is buying from Boaz (where I bought mine), 1/4 and 1/8 is good IMHO. Less than 1/8 too subtle.

Foot note: Level Turbo minus 1 is my own nomenclature for the highest stepped level below turbo. I reference all levels to Turbo instead of an isolated “level 6” etc.

This is the same level that the 1lumen reviewer measures Duv=0.0140, among the highest positive number that I’ve seen. This means green hell.

IME SFT-25R’s tint is exquisitely dependent on level of brightness, best at Turbo, green hell at lower brightness level.

That actually don’t look half bad for me. Way better than original tint. Did you tried some CTO filters, or only minus green?

CTO = Color Temperature Orange to save readers from googling, and pls ignore “Chlorine, Taste, and Oder filter” :slightly_smiling_face:.

No I did not try. The CCT (yellow vs blue axis) of 5500k doesn’t bother me; it’s the green tint (green vs magenta axis) I cannot stand.

Have not heard of CTO filter in flashlight discusion forum. Is someone using it? I forgot to look but I suspect I might have one such filter among my camera flash’s accessories.

Do Not Use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or unknown.

Just start with a warm hi cri LED and you don’t need a filter.

1 Thank

I am more tolerant to tint itself, but light has to have warmer - just don’t like cold light, even when it has perfect tint and shape.
Ill see what Skilhunt will do with their new LED - if they “fail” my needs, maybe i will think about Emisar D3AA

3 Thanks
