Yeah, I definitely smell a giant aspherical thrower coming along here. Shame you are not around any harbor Freight stores. They have what you are looking for on sale regularly for under $20 each.
The 200 Led eight AA used to be sold under the Guide Gear name but last offer I could find for it is dated 2012. The lights listed above all seem to be surplus lights too, probably new old stock. The D cell lights are probably more practical from a power standpoint.
Best price on one of these 128 LED six D cell dinosaurs that I found is on Amazon. Checked out the other listings above for 128 LED lights and the shipping was a killer. The Amazon one is about $20.75 including shipping for a combined light and club. Only 495mm or 19.5” long. No more impractical than a 6 D cell Maglite and almost certainly has more output than the incandescent bulb Maglite had.
Why go with multiple AA unless you are trying for minimum size or have lots of Eneloops? I actually just ordered the Amazon listed 128 LED six D cell light as a semi joke to see what the old shower head led lights were like. With six D size NiMH batteries it should run for quite a while. Of course I also have the 36? LED Shower head LED drop-in for Mag lites still offered by ebay sellers and it puts out a lot more light than the old incandescent or single LED Maglites ever did.
The 128 LED six D cell monster arrived. Relatively low output per LED it looks like so less total light from this huge beast than from my 3 D cell Maglite with the 36 LED Fusion drop-in bought on eBay. The 3 D light is more practical too due to better size…
The LEDs are mounted in a PCB so wiring is minimal. The whole LED assembly is easily removable and looks pretty crudely made and finished. The tail cap spring is weak for this number of batteries so it looks like contact iis questionable if the light is shaken at all when held vertically. Recharging my set of NiMH batteries, 10,000 mAh Tenergys, to check output with fully charged batteries and try to measure tailcap current draw.
