Hey everyone. I have a 4sevens quark mini CR2 xpg-r5 s2 edition, and I absolutely love it. It is bright for its size, and I love compact lights.
I'd like to ad another CR2 light to my collection and was wondering if you guys could help me locate other Cr2 lights as I am having a difficult time finding any.
I have seen the nitecore EZcr2 but its on the pricier side and I think the 4sevens has more to offer.
Sorry I didn't clarify that. I prefer budget, but I may consider a pricier (~$50) light depending on its features because I know it'll be difficult to find a budget CR2. At least, its been difficult for me to find :) Thanks!
I've been looking for a nice really tiny CR2 (or smaller) powered light, but there really are no budget micro lights.
Sadly there are some very, very nice very, very expensive ones.
I especially like the Ku 38DD...inspite of it sounding like a bra, it uses a 10180 and has variable out put thanks to it's use of QTC (quantum tunneling compound) in it's switch. QTC changes slowly from a complete insulator to conductor as it is compressed.
At $170 it's going to have to go on the "if I win the lottery" pile...unlikely as I don't buy tickets.
Since a sufficient piece of QTC can be had for around 25 cents, that isn't the reason it is so crazy overpriced.
The TiKey which is about 14 quid can be persuaded to use a 10180 and it'd be no problem to stick a square of QTC into it for variable brightness. Since its maximum output is around 10 lumens, this might be a little pointless though.
lol! well thanks Don, I appreciate what your memory does provide you. Also, is there anywhere that I can find those orb raws? Being in Canada, its looking tricky to locate them so far. They do look gorgeous!
I have an aurora sh-033 in my cart at DX as we speak. Thanks Don!
You'll only find one used. I don't think Rob has made them in a while.
They are unfinished aluminium so polish up nicely.
He sold a quite a lot of them so you might find one in the Other Place's Marketplace.
He makes nice stuff - but not necessarily budget stuff.
The more recent Raws are quite a lot smaller and made of nickel-silver (Think coinage metal) and use 14250 cells. They cost around US$100.
He also makes them in very small batches in exotic materials - I've seen damascus steel, sterling silver, titanium, and about two of them in tungsten which weighed a ton and cost a fortune.
He will probably make anything he has the metalwork for to your specification - but it is likely to cost you a lot and take quite a long time to arrive.
He used to upgrade them to current specifications for reasonable prices - i thought about getting the Luxeon one upgraded to a Cree, but it cost not a whole lot more to buy a whole new one. This was 3-4 years ago though.
I think you'll find the Aurora to be an excellent light. Don't try it with protected CR2s (Which I believe AW no longer sells so you won't be able to find them anyway). The current draw on high is about as far as I'd want to go with a CR2 rechargeable.
Actually 15266 (CR2 rechargeables) aren't the easiest cells to find.
If you are interested in a Raw, I'd take a look on CPF Marketplace - I no longer go there so have no idea what they are going for nowadays. The Raw NS ones are more recent and will probably go for more than the original Raws.
I might be persuaded to part with one of mine but I did pay quite a lot for them.
Well if the day ever comes where you'd consider parting, just shoot me a pm :) I am not a fan of CPF, especially because everytime i've come across a light I'd like to purchase, they'd tell me I did not have the privilege to contact the person about purchasing it. Even though I made about 10 special 'test posts' in their little area for new members. So frustrating lol. Missed out on a few nice lights that I wanted.
PM me. I'll give you what I consider to be fair prices considering what I paid. You may not agree on the price. That is fine by me.
I paid around US$100 for the Luxeon one and a little under US$100 for the Cree one. The Cree one is a lot brighter than the Luxeon one. I'd want around US$50 for the Luxeon and 45 for the Cree. But I am open to negotiation
Runtime on both in high is less than 15 minutes. The Cree one runs a little longer than the Luxeon one.
I actually found that light while searching for some QTC for a non-flashlight project. Sadly everywhere I've tried either has an order minimum that would buy enough QTC to wallpaper a room or insane postage costs.
Yeah as usual at CPF the price is only vaguely related to the material costs and work involved.
I've not been able to find the TiKey for much less than twice that unfortunately, they were down as low as £8 at one point last year.
I don't know if the Aurora SH-033 or the Ultrafire WF-606A (using CR2) have any sense, if you use a CR2 battery it is because you are looking for something really small.. and those are almost a 1xAA light
