Following on from a thread in the 18650 forum about my broken Thorfire VG-15s, I need to buy some new parts for it. (Replacing it is the other option but given that most of the torch is OK then I’d rather not bin it.)
It’s a single 18650 light and the switch in the tail seems to work OK. This therefore means that I need to replace the board in the front of the light or the board with the LED on (they are separate, with small wires soldered between the two. I am comfortable soldering new boards in.)
Here’s a photo of it dismantled.
Some measuring tells me that:
LED Board diameter = 15.5mm
Circuit board diameter at the front of the torch = 18.5mm
LED bias voltage in one direction = 3.01v
LED bias voltage in the other direction = 1.35v
(LED readings were taken with the board still attached so may not be accurate).
Can anyone recommend me a LED board and a board for the front of the light which will work? I have been looking across AliExpress until my eyes have gone funny but I don’t think I understand what I am looking at. If I get a choice then I’d like a board which gives a few brightness levels as well as a flashing option, but that’s about it.
I hope you like a warm light. The linked LED is that. Let us know what you think. If you want more of a daylight temperature, rather than a candle flame, You can get those in the same style LED (XML2).
I know lots of folks here love the warm emitters. I believe that is a developed taste. I personally like a neutral color temperature more. Something in the 5000 to 5700 CCT range. I would think the led currently in your light is neutral to cold white.
