Help with an emitter mod

(Moderators: Feel free to thrash me if this isn't allowed)

I am looking for someone to assist with an emitter swap on a Fenix LD41 and I'd be happy to pay you for your time. I may also need help with selection assistance. I'm in Ohio.

I like everything about the form factor and function of the Fenix but don't like the low CRI Cool white LED. It's my understanding direct replacements for an XM-L2 are limited. I don't want it too warm, so Cree's own XMLBWT-00-0000-000HT30E7 is sold by the individual unit, that that would net me a ~4000K light around 80 CRI with a 25% loss in light output. The other option, as I understand it, is an SST-40. I'm not sure what is available in a single unit and what CRI's are made, but I'd like 80+ CRI. I know 90 is a pipe dream.

Any recommendations on an emitter? Any takers on assistance with the swap?

Robert

The common-as-dirt XM-L in a 4C tint (common in S2+es) is beautiful if using a TIR lens to properly mix the colors. Otherwise it looks a bit too yellow in the hotspot and blue in the spill when using a reflector.

Generally, the higher the CRI, the lower the output (all the phosphors necessary to “tune” the final light output). Still, you can use any of the various Nichias, or a LH351D, as both have less tint-shift when using a reflector.

What might be a beautiful tint to me, might be hideous to you. Hence the need to really play around and experiment with easy-to-mod lights (drop-ins, C8s, etc.).

Your request won’t get hammered by any mods, help of this kind is a pretty common desire and as long as the flashlight in question is readily opened up you should be able to find somebody within a state or three willing to help you out.

bump. Anyone willing to help?

I'll PM the moderator so he can thrash you.
