Recently one of my lights with the H17F driver was giving me issues… The light would not change modes but it would come on a lower mode and then it would ramp down until the light turned off. I wasn’t sure if it was because I ran it on high too long or because I dropped the light too hard but when I opened the light up to take a look at it I noticed that a part of one of chips on the driver had broken off. I wanted to see if replacing this chip would fix the problem or if it was more than that. I circled the chip in the picture that was broken off. Also, where to source the replacement chip if that will solve my problem. Any insight would be appreciated.
I think this is the part. I'd PM RMM thru his website to be sure.
Did the legs break free from the solder pad or is the case broken? If the case isn't damaged and the legs are still there try to resolder it.
I'd also hit all the legs on the tiny 25 and the little e2 diode with the iron to be sure everything is connected.
It's hard for me to see how dropping it could break any components off the board but I guess it's possible. Can you show a picture of the actual driver?
Does it look/smell burnt?
The cap fell off and I only noticed it when I took the driver off. Then the little piece fell on the garage floor and I couldn’t find it. The driver doesn’t smell burnt and I don’t see any of the legs disconnected. Here’s a cellphone pic of the driver (not the best picture):
Hopefully changing out the part will fix the driver but I’ve never had luck fixing a driver yet. Too bad mouser charges $5 for shipping for a part that costs less than and dollar. Thanks Rotor for the info.
