help with shorted LED

I recently did my second build; an L2. xpl hi emitter and driver from mountain electronics. I am not very good at soldering and the light comes on in high only. The nice man from Mountain stated I have a short between the led and ground. What does this mean and how can I fix it please.

Any help would be appreciated

than you all.

This happened to me once on my L6. See if the reflector base is touching your ground solder wire on the star. I had to make my negative solder blob lower and also added kaplan tape to protect both + and - from the reflector base.

Continuing with what klrman said just take off bezel, lens, reflector and try the light. If it functions normally you found the problem.

Thank you,

I will give that a try. I'll bet the reflector is shorting it

That did not work. I took the reflector off and it still remains in only one mode. I inspected for obvious issues and could not see any problems. Is it possible for the driver to be damaged?

There could be shorts else where too

Take a picture of the driver. If you have solder that spills over it could be touching something it shouldn’t

Yes, post a picture of the driver and the star here so we can look at it.

ok I will

Also check at the negative LED solder point. It’s possible the solder could be contacting the side of the copper MCPCB.

I think I will desolder the led and start from scratch.
