Hi from West Sussex, Uk

Hi Guys,

recognise a few names from British Blades.

Started using flashlights more so looking into filling various niches. At the minute I have an Olight S20, got an S10 on the way, Ultrafire UF-T50 which I’ve had a little while and a Maratac aaa alu.

Hoping to source some 18650 batteries and some suggestions/thoughts on a new charger. Now I am using torches more, I really think I ought to change out the WF-139.

Budget is the key word, though!

Cheers,
Greg

Welcome to BLF, Greg! There’s lots of 4 cell chargers now to choose from if you need to charge more than a couple of li-ion cells at once (i4, XTAR XP4, Thrunite MCC-4, Fenix ARE-C2, Soshine SC-S1maxV3).

hi Greg, welcome to the forum.

bigf_d_d torchy the battery boy on ebay is worth a look.

charger wise, I love my xtar wp2 ii, again they can be sourced cheap in the uk on ebay and are imo ideal for anything up to 18650 size.

lights wise, the convoy range from fasttech is worth a look, otherwise I like both cnqg and intloutdoor, they offer nice ranges with some good options on the house lights without breaking the bank.

Good luck.

Hi Greg, welcome to BLF !

I am definitely going to have to do a lot more reading on chargers. Twin cell would be fine, really. I just want something that is well put together and isn’t going to fubar batteries! XTAR WP2 ii looks promising. All the 4 cell chargers seem to have heat issues from what I have read - but maybe I just haven’t read enough!

I am self employed and part of what I do is dog sitting, now the nights are drawing it I reckon I really need a small flooder like the S10/20 and something with a bit more throw. I am thinking something in the ubiquitous C8 format that is compatible with the P60 drop ins might be the way to go, but I haven’t given it serious thought.

As you can probably gather - small (for the class) single cell torches are what I am really concentrating on at the moment - but that may change as I better understand my needs.

Thanks for the various welcomes/suggestions so far

a good c8 would definitely cover your needs for walking the pooches.

options are

lightmalls c8/c12
convoy c8
xintd c8

just a note, the c8’s do not use a p60 drop in, they have a proper pill that screws into the head of the light giving proper heat transfer.

They require an emitter swap using an iron to change out emitters, where the p60, you just change the module and wraps needed to shed heat to the host and you have a different beam profile.

For reference

xm-l/l2 is quite floody in a small reflector
xp-g/g2 is quite throwy in a small reflector
xp-e/xr-e/xp-e2 is a pure thrower emitter in our uses, but handy if you restrict yourself to primary cells.

Multi emitter lights will tend towards flood rather than throw if thats what you want, there’s a lot of coke can sized 3 or so xm-l 4 parallel 18650 lights out now but they do tend to double as a hand warmer on high.

My personal favorite light of the moment is the convoy l2 from fasttech for throw (I do build it to my own spec though) for flood, I do like the trustfire a8 style 26650 lights, you can use a tubing sleeve to use 18650 cells, the only thing is, to make most budget lights really nice, you need to show a little willing with a soldering iron, then you can have the exact tint and modes you want without the irritating blinky modes.

Or find a modder, or buy from intloutdoor/cngq who both offer mode and tint options.

Britishblades?? Never heard of it

Welcome to the forum matey

I thought I read a review of something the other day which was essentially a c8 platform with p60 drop in compatibility. I could well be wrong though - read a bunch of reviews recently.

Thanks for the welcomes again

Unfortunately they all seem to have that in common. >.< XTAR do make some nice smaller chargers though.

Thought so. I’ll likely avoid because of that. Really just need a nice simple 2 cell that works.

Have a nice time here, gregs656!
