Hi all.
This is my first post. Been into electronics for some time and now gotten into flashlights .
I have a bit of a collection already and now looking for a super high power thrower
I’m looking at nitecore tm36
Ace beam k70
And thrunite tn42.
The k70 and the tn42 both use the xhp hi. And by all reviews tn42 seems to outperform the k70
Then there’s the nitecore tm36 which uses the luminous led.
I would be most greatfull for recommendations or comments or pointers on the subject .
These lights aren’t cheap so want to get the best one … I’m also looking separate at a tn40vn as a combined power thrower. But for a dedicated thrower I’m considering the above?
I’ve read heaps of reviews and watched YouTube videos also.
I can see lots of comparisons of the k70 to the tn42.
But I’m struggling to see how the nitecore tm36 fits into the mix with those two… does anyone have a tm36 and can offer a comparative comment with either of the k70 or tn42 high power xhp hi dedicated throwers?
Well… TM36 is not bad either, although it wont shine a mile, but as far as your eyes can see in the darkness,
It will light the object with a big hot spot… oh yeah not too mention you can use it for caveman style clubbing too, as it is heavy and feels very solid
Too bad you’re across the ocean, or else I might part with it and you could use the savings to buy the other light
With the question of throw in mind, the TM36 is not in the same class of the TN42. Had the TM36Lite (short tube) and traded it for a TM16 which I then modified. The TN42 is just spectacular at what it does.
So as a very random question, who is the quad ray version of nitecore lights marketed to ?
I like my tm26gt for what it is. But I don’t have much to compare it to. It’s my only multi emitter light (save for x7 which is a different beast altogether )
Why would you go for the quad ray tm26 line over the larger reflector multi emitter tm16 version?
Also note the tm26 version much more expensive ……?
I have the TM26gt ant the TM16gt. I think the biggest advantage the Tm26 gt would have is the smaller size.
It will fit in your jacket pocket. It also has momentary on, and always direct access to turbo. Also a wider beam, without all that crown stuff. And a charging port.
Sometimes a light is designed for a target audience, sometimes it’s just because they can… realistically we buy lights we don’t necessarily need as much as want, so the whole target audience thing is skewed.
Edit: I hadn’t been aware of the TM16GT I don’t think when I got the TM16 on a trade. I love the light, but of course I modify things, it’s what I do. So, I did some work on the TM16 on Nov 16, 2016 (happened to have been the wife’s birthday). Got the 26mm MaxToch copper mcpcb from Richard and re-flowed 4 of the N4 1D XHP-35 onto em, after shaping them like a guitar pick to fit on the emitter shelf. After a bit of research and some good advice, I bridged the sense resistor for more power. It’s now making 6969 lumens with 146.75Kcd for 766M throw. Works for me!
I have all of them and then some, the TN42 I have 3 of them. One stock one about to get a dedomed E2-1A and 3amp driver and I even modded one of the TN42’s with a XHP70 P2-1C!
Out of the box performance thrower, IMHO the TN42 is the only way to go! I really like the NW XHP35 that came in the last TN42 it cuts thru the haze and mist better, the cool white you get a bit longer throw, not that you could tell by eye!
If you like the size of Nitecore TM26GT for throw, then you might check out Imalent DT35 with 4 HXP35 HI, it seems to out throw my Nitecore TM16GT, althought I’m not too crazy about the light’s picky regarding the batteries choices.
