Hosts with 70-80mm head

Is there such a thing anywhere? Or a compete light cheap enough to be gutted & used as a host?

trustfire x6, x7?

Hi Comfy, those ebay 109 led flashlights are good for about 73-75mm reflectors. I would like to find a larger host as well……

how about seeing if chicago x could do something with a hunk of 100mm alu bar and a mag d host of appropriate cell count?

Eh... not a fan of toilet plungers. Plus, it needs to have enough room for a 1.4"-OD or so driver, more likely to fit in a short fat one.

If I could build one from scratch it would be something like a 5:3 scale SRK, with 4x 32650s. I'm using these SST-50 reflectors, and would like to keep the reflectors round, I think the overlapping/cutouts between reflectors in the multi-LED lights is what makes them so floody.

This is what you are looking for it’s from Keygos on-ebay. they are very reliable and really for this price it’s an amazing light. It even comes with a shoulder strap, extra lens, switch and 0-rings. 78mm bezel.

oops no plungers, forget this then. I have another light that I think you will dig.

UltraFire Model:1226

4 18650’s like a SRK but with bigger head and handle. One huge reflector. 4amps I think I might try a de-domed copper heatsinked XP-G2 in it.

oooo that’s a pretty good price on that, I’m definitely into the xp-g2 idea too, it will throw like a teenager on white lightning.

ok, this host

but email ric if you need a series battery carrier he does both, and the afore mentioned custom head, just retain the contact board and have the driver in the head.

Aliexpress has it a little cheaper and I have bought from this guy before and he was ok.

But I can probably talk Lightmalls into at least matching the price. I’m hoping for around 40 bucks and I already have more XP=G2’s on the way. It should be fun.

DING DING DING DING! (maybe)

86mm head? Or is that at the widest overall point, which would be the handle? I wonder what the ID is at the bezel opening...

This is for a triple MT-G2 with the SST-50 reflectors linked above and a HBFlex driver. It will need a momentary side switch added and the battery config changed around. Tailcap clickie can stay as a lockout.

Never bought from either DX or Lightmalls before, which to choose?

Sorry just found it on another site and the reflector is more like 70mm. Still pretty cool though.

I can fit these reflectors into a ~68mm hole without cutting into the inside surface. Bigger would be better, obviously, but I have done stuff way more complex than what this would take, if it really is 70mm.

None of the lunatics here has bought one yet?

Not that I know of. I’m waiting on some funds before I jump in on one.

Even if the dimensions end up not working for the triple, it'd still be pretty mean with a single MT-G2. (and stripped + re-anodized black)

What about the SST-90 reflector for the MT-G2, for a single die thrower? What's the Diameter of the SST-50 reflectors? 4" to 2-1/2" copper coupling and a piece of 2-1/2" copper pipe will do great and you can add active cooling in the form of a fan blowing across the heatsink fins, just like a PC.Wink

The little SST-50 ones are 1.3"/33mm at the ID of the big end, 1.45"/36.8mm at the OD of the threads.

For a single MT-G2 in the UF1226, I don't see why the original reflector wouldn't work. It looks an awful lot like the one that comes in Solarforce S1100 (also 70mm at ID of the bezel) and it works nice w/MT-G2.

Actually, from measuring the DX photos where the reflector shows and the batteries are right next to it would look about a 62-64mm reflector.

Is there a lens to suit this reflector?

It would really depend on the fitment in the head of whatever you manage to put the reflector in. There's often a fairly substantial mismatch between the OD of the reflector and the OD of the lens, even in unmodified lights.

BTW, I found the light those neat small SST-50 reflectors fit, you were asking about that in another thread. See here: http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1143

If used with a MT-G2 you'd have to use it in 2x 26650 mode, as a boost driver to run it at respectable current from one cell doesn't exist. But with 2 cells it'd be fairly straightforward and not all that bulky, still a good bit smaller than something like a 2-C/D Maglite.

UF 1226 ordered from Lightmalls, will update here or in new thread when it shows up.
