How do you remove this pill?

Oldie but goodie light, the Romisen RC-N3. Probably not worth fixing but I’m learning the ways of the mod, so may as well try.

Its problem is that it’s intermittent, if I beat it really hard against my palm it may come on, stay on for a while until I wave it too much. What does that indicate exactly?

The second question is how the heck do I remove the pill? Seems like I have to back it out of the tube? There is no retaining ring and it looks to be all one piece in front of the pill.

Also, what the heck are these two notches, on the side of the head? Is this the way to access the pill? I can’t figure out how to open it. Thanks!

take a good clear picture from the back (driver side). You will need small flashlight to shine it

Here you go. BTW I tried using a pencil to erase the mark on the contact, it kinda improved things but still goes out when hardly shaken.

Thanks!

Looks like you could use needle nose pliers thru the LED lead holes to unscrew the pill from the top.

Yes, I did try that but it only backs out a little bit and then won’t go further….

First check if the metal under the LED MCPCB is the same metal (brass?) used for the pill. If so then 99% you can twist it with needle nose pliers like Kawi said.

From the picture the thread locked with two small solder blobs. Keep doing it, back and forth, it will loosen the solder eventually.

EDIT: if possible, try to wick most of the locking solder blobs first. Heating the whole flashlight to 150C should helps ( as long as there’s no low melt plastic components)

How about this.

Sorry, looks like I missed something from your picture. The two notches looks impossible to machine as single part. That’s where the connection threaded.

A lot of machining for a wanna be style P60 type flashlight…

Thank you all. I got it disassembled. This is the first time I’ve torn down a flashlight so progress!

One question: What are the likely causes for the symptoms I experienced: Bashing the light lengthwise against my palm causes it to turn off or on (and stay off/on). Not every bash but say one in 3-4 tries, so it’s not like it’s turning on and off as I just slightly move it. What kind of connection/contact problem may I have?

Thanks. I think I’m going to clean the threads and use a lubricant on them. I’ll do some research but wonder if I have some stuff that may work around the house already, like WD-40, etc.

Thanks for all the help!
