How does the UI on the SolarStorm Warrior work?

I consider myself a flashaholic and even I cannot understand this thing. I thought the flash button was for changing modes... :(

I am seriously lost on how to run this thing. I have only seen 4 modes. 3 by pressing the power button and 1 by double tapping the lightning button. How do you run this thing? So far the King/Kung seem like much better choices simply because of the UI and 4x18650.

*With one of my warriors the first battery indicator doesn't light up (the lowest bar). Also both of mine show 4 "bars" with cells that are 3.8v. Only one light shows 3 "bars" with cells at 3.6v.

For those who search this topic for some instructions:

  • How to use:
    • Press the large button for 2 seconds to turn light on/off
    • Click the large button to switch brightness for Med > High > SOS
    • With light ON (medium-mode) press and hold the small button for ramping
    • Double click the small button to access Strobe mode
    • With light OFF hold the small button to access instant Hi until released
    • With light OFF double click the small button to access instant strobe

It looks like I have Hi-Med-SOS and strobe with the "flash" button clicked twice. I cannot find the ramping or a medium.

The “how to use” here is accurate for mine (even though mine is from FFC):

Warrior at FT

Except it is missing one instruction:

- Hold the small button down for instant-on High

And I only need to hold the large button for about 1 sec to turn on/off.

Yours sounds like it has a problem ?

Oh very interesting. Do you think it is harmful to hold the small button (instant high) for long periods?

I have to hold mine for just about 2 seconds. I can count "one one-thousand, two." then it switches.

I think I understand all of the modes this thing has now. Thanks for all of the help guys. Holy cow there are so many options. (too many options) I have updated my original post with a "how to use". Let me know if I am missing anything.

I would much rather have the power button turn the light on and off (w/ memory) and the small buttons change the modes. So basically a Fenix UI. Anyone else think the same?

Just one small detail:

“With light ON press the small button for ramping”

should probably read

“With light ON in Mid mode, press the small button for ramping”

otherwise I notice the small button doesn’t do anything.

I haven’t had mine on high for exended periods so far, but it doesn’t seem to get too hot (though it is winter here in the southern hemisphere) …

Yeah I think this light has a lot of potential but the UI is too complicating, IMO.

ok, i better subscribe to this since i just ordered my warrior xml2 like 2 hours ago.
i hope its not as bad as it sounds.

wait, so i have to hold the power button down for like 2 seconds to turn on? thats pretty weak if so.
its already bad enough when some lights you gotta hold down 2 secs. to turn off, now to turn on…man thats not quick easy access.

There is quick easy access to high by just pressing the smaller button while it is off. It is momentary though as it turns off as soon as you release it. This UI is my favorite of any light I own. It is not complicated.

cool! im sure ill like it too. hope it lives up to the light. i love the srk, i think its my go to light at the moment.

The UI is great once you learn it. You can press and hold the small button while off for instant high beam and hold it for quite a while, I’ve done it for a few minutes to test, but my finger got tired. I run it on high (click after turn on to ramp mode with big button) almost every time and occasionally lower it to let it cool. I just came back from a 13 mile hike in fact, 1hr 10mins of the time almost solid on high. Its a lot of fun in the complete dark with many various target distances to see the true range of the light: its much better than SRK. I haven’t touched my SRK, Kung, J18 or 12x T6 for weeks now that I got the Warrior (truth be told I didnt even use SRK/Kung much except close/around the house).

now thats what im talking about. thats waaaay better heat transfer than the king. honestly the kung would have been a great light if it didnt heat as fast as it does. if it was anything like the warrior, id prefer it because it floodier
