How does this work w/o a compressor?

calling HVAC guys or appliance techs
I believe it may work on the same principle as this portable cooler.

Peltier cooler. They are used occasionally in high-high-high end PCs.

Peltiers work by applying DC current to a plate and one side gets cold and the other really hot. They’re horribly inefficient compared to standard refrigerant units, but the Peltiers can be downright tiny.

Thermoelectric cooling - Wikipedia - wiki article on them.

Probably absorption refrigeration …I have one in my pop-up camper.

Probably something based on a peltier cooler. Often not terribly effective, but can get the job done depending on the load. I had modded a Cocacola 6 can cooler at one time that could get the cans near freezing, but the fan was loud and it probably wasted a lot of power. Eventually, the peltier chip burned out, twice. Never bothered to put the third replacement in.

interesting about the absorption cooling, is that what a mini-fridge uses?

No. The fridges that flashination posted use Peltiers like I said in the second comment.

Am I invisible?

Yep, peltiers. There’s a $3 one if you wanna tinker with it and see how it ticks (remember you need heatsink):

TECs (Thermoelectric cooler) / peltiers suck as a fridge. At best they can only cool a certain amount below ambient temperature. Fine as a portable cooler if you need it light & small but don’t buy a TEC mini “refrigerator”.

GE seems to be making progress with magnetic refrigeration. Hopefully small & light will be possible.
