how far does a zoomie actually throw?

i never thought of purchasing a zoomie untill today. im just in a flashlight buying mood today for some reason. im curious on how far they throw. for instance will the popular sipik sk68, keygos m12, small sun zy-c10, or trustfire z8 throw as far as a zml c8 such as a keygos or kd?

if not, what is something similar in throw so i have a general idea?

The fact that it’s a zoomie is not what makes it throw so it’s how hard it’s driven and how large the lens is that matters.

I’m not familiar with all of the lights mentioned but I’ve had the Sipik and the Smallsun. The Smallsun wins.

Among those lights something with an aspheric lens and the largest diameter wins the throw contest basically.

My custom built “zoomie” goes so far you’d need binoculars to measure.

aye carumba!

OMG LOL

How does the lens attach? Glue or mechanical?

how much and will u sell them here?

most FFT (flood to throw) lights are budget lights; cheap price, plastic lens (optics) and polycarbonate reflector, and often with small LED's (Q5, ..). zoomies are great cheap way to produce immense throw; with my DX Romisen RC-29 run on 1x14500 i can light up white(!) traffic signs 350m+ far away. If your eyes can see traffic signs at 400m distance (they are tiny looking!), then even those are clearly lit up because white is reflective. It's difficult to light up matte finished objects like a black tree or dark purple asphalt.

1 very good quality zoomie (e.g. RC-29 @ 14500) is enough in my collection.

The trustfire Z5 clones are amazing in price and quality. They’re so well sealed that the head has trouble moving due to the vacuum. Prolly one of only few waterproof zooming light out there. The mode program is kinda crap (100/50/25 spacing and 2min “memory”) but it’s mechanically excellent.

? Seems like a strange area you live in. :SMy trees are brown and my roads gray or black.

I had a Small Sun ZY-C10, but I sold it because the one I got was painted weird. It is hard to explain but it looked like it was painted twice but the second coat was about 1/8 of a rotation off so the two coats didn’t line up. It made the like look really cheap. That is just a isolated case and I don’t think that happens very often.

The light was great for throw. I am running off of memory now but it threw as far if not farther than a HS-801. It definitely threw further than a C8. However the beam was very small so it isn’t very usable unless you like laser-like lights. It is a good light to have in your collection though and I would like to buy another.

beamshots

It’s glued into the macro adapter ring with shoe goo. The macro ring is so the light will be properly spaced so the output is focused as the led needs to be held a certain distance form the lens and also the macro ring allows different lenses to be used. I have an old 200mm lens which makes the light into pretty much a laser pointer, a 3” wide hot spot at 40 feet or so. Pretty useless but the throw is even crazier if you can even call it throw, it’s just a teeny tiny point of light in the distance by then.

Sorry I’m not selling this as this particular lens is still valuable as is, these lenses go used for more than I thought, about $100 used. It really isn’t hard to make these at all though.

thanks for that link with the beam shots, now im def. gonna order a zoomie. i didnt think they can throw as far as they do.
