Hey guys I never had a website or even made one before and I’m thinking about opening one for my flashlights and marine stuff……
One thing I like to know
What’s a good place to start ? Or how to start
First I would think about what content you are creating, and then your audience.
Well I work at a marine warehouse and I like to start selling mainly that stuff, then add random things to the site ect….
To start on ebay is much easier. More simple to upload contents, already built customer visits, and payment channel. To build a web site, it can be easy and can be difficult.
why not start on ebay first.
Well, only make a site if you know you can advertise it well. It is not enough to make the site. There are many eCommerce templates software to handle a shop front, and hosting companies can help with the security side of things.
I would agree with starting on Ebay. Once you reach power seller status then you could open a website. Amazon is another possibility.
I have used Readyhosting for years with good results. Google them and take a look.
Dan.
even on ebay and amazon, there is rules to follow to market you link. if you built a single site, the rule is otherwise.
Alternatively, if you are member of marine and flashlight forums as a trader then building a webstore is better than referring potential customers to Ebay.
There are various ways to go about it.
Firstly there are free website creators where you can get an idea such as http://imcreator.com
There are also various templates available to use, some free, some not.
Take a look around http://en.wordpress.com Lots of ideas and a very good tool, but for a good sales type website I believe you would have to look at spending money on a good template/theme. There is a way to run it from your own comp in the first instance (Google is your friend) if you want to experiment.
Get a HTML editor and a CSS editor and get creating. (Most difficult) and some programs can be eye-wateringly expensive. There are some free ones but really they are more for blog type sites these days.
I run an animal charity dog rescue website and it has taken a lot of time to create and maintain… far more work than you would think.

Works REALLY well. Free if you host it yourself, or reasonable cost options for one of their affiliates to host it.
