I’m wondering if there are any Jack Bogle fans here or perhaps others that believe in similar investing philosophies.
It’s budget light forum, so I’m definitely into low costs. I got into Vanguard funds through the retirement plan at work in 1992. Learned more on AOL where Vanguard had an area, before there was much of an internet. I’m not sure indexing and buy and hold work as well as they once did, but that’s still where most of my money is.
Taking Jack Bogle's basic advice will enable me to one day retire despite the parade of financial pitfalls and crises that sprung up to threaten my savings over the past 25 years. I had my doubts in 2001/2002 and again in 2008/2009, but hanging in there was not bad advice.
At some point in the next 20 years, though, I will have to find a good redemption strategy...
I’ve a big believer in passive investing and keeping investment costs as low as possible - and staying the course.
Learning about past financial bubbles(going WAY back) and their almost cyclical nature also gives peace of mind that nothing we’re seeing is ever completely unprecedented. People have short memories; manias and depressions are pretty normal.
I’ve read several of John’s books, and I’ve been investing with Vanguard for 13 years now. I have 35 years before I retire, so that’s a long period of time to execute this approach. Y’all will probably wanna kill me, but - bring on the bear markets, I like sales.
