How many flashlights would I own if.....

At present I have around 130 flashlights, way too many. I was thinking about how many I would have if the first ones I ever saw were say:

Emisar D4 V2 (my favorite)
Lumintop FW3A
Fireflies E07

…… throw in a Q8 and some AAA like the UltraTac K18

I could be pretty content with those, couldn’t I? Hopefully.

Those are good , the d4v2 is tempting. I have some junk and then a goal zero flashlight/lantern lighthouse flash, Zebralight sc64w hi, and emisar d1s, and a stream light tlr hi for my pistol. Looking at maybe an astrolux mf01s now lol.

Probably a dozen or so types, but a few spares of each if they’re nice (hate doing without in case something’d happen to one).

Got too many box-queens. Even way too many hosts.

I’ll use one or another based on the situation, so I actually use the better part of a dozen fairly regularly.

Well I’m just diving into this hobby and just got my Wizard Pro headlamp yesterday. Have a D4v2 and FT03 on the way. Next up will be a flooder, really looking at the MF01S. I hope I will be able to satiate my flashlight appetite with these lights, but there are so many awesome lights out there that are reasonably priced! I’ve had a v1 Nitecore UC35 for over 5 years and love it but need moarrr

Starting fresh.
I think around 8 would cover most situations.
NOT counting the mile long throwers here mind you.
They a species of their own.

Me. Around 38/40 ish.

If just keeping the wanted,needed. used ones?

Astrolux AO1 (I love them have 5ish) AAA. OR Below.
Jetbeam Jet-1 MK. Everybody shound have a coupla those AA.

XANES XT01 Stainless. single led. 18350 cell
Makes a great in hand knuckle duster if req’d.

Convoy C8+ Several LED’s 18650 cell.
or the C8 model with triple head same cell.

Astrolux S41. Aluminium or Stailess.
Quad beads. 13650/18650 cells.

Imalent DN35 or 70. Single LED 26650 cell.
Throw forever. good spread and fit in hand.

Convoy L2 or L6. or both.
Single or dual 26650 cells, varying beads.
Loong distance Cheap range torches WITH reliability.

Whoops. 7 or 10.
But good coverage of cheaper, reliable torches.
Plus another 50 or 100 avail, on the market.

Above are just my choice of personally bought/used torches.
Others have different choices. some similar. some a LOT better.
It goes forever…
BUT. with todays improved quality Chinese units.
It’s no longer necessary to pay a massive amount for both quality and Proven… Relaibility.
Those exxy ones are still there for those that like paying for the name though. We both happy.

Wait till you start on knives.
Torches go up to around $600USD.
Japanese knives to around $4000 and more,
with years long waiting lists.

Oh. And a Headlamp IS a necessity… They ARE so useful at so many times.

I not huge fan of collecting flashlight but here what I do understand that, every lights has its own usage at their own situation…

I always make decision, what light do I really need and what category. For me, those category of lights are

  1. FLOOD LIGHTS - Higher lumen
  2. HIGH CRI 95+
  3. LONG TROW - Higher candela
  4. DIVING LIGHTS
  5. HEADLIGHTS
  6. EDC
  7. TACTICAL
  8. UV LIGHTS
  9. OUTDOOR or INDOOR

Currently, I have own KLARUS XT21X (tactical) and CONVOY S2 UV. I’m still awaiting for my throw light which Astrolux FT03 SST40 5700K and high cri, Convoy S12 3*SST20 2700K.

I could probably limit it to 6 lights. Knives? That’s a completely different story. It’s gotten to the point to where I order ones I like just to give to other people. My father in law is always happy to see me. He knows I’m coming with a box of goodies. I bought a shotgun one time and gave it to him. I already had the same exact one but, I knew he wouldn’t buy it for himself.

what i actually have is about 20 lights - some cheap amazon convoy knockoffs
some thorfire lights that are ok that i got for reviewing
some yard sale stuff
a 3C home depot light and a jetbeam 2x18650 that are super throwy but large
a 26650 super floody and bright by wuben, again a review sample
many super small cr123a twisties
some AA lights
lumintop AAA
plus ‘misc’ - as it if it isn;t all “MISC” :slight_smile:

Good question :slight_smile:

  • Convoy L4 XML2 5000K low CRI in 2-cell configuration for walking around outside.
  • Convoy S2+ with SST20 4000K high CRI for belt EDC.
  • Nitecore MT06MD (Nichia 219B 5000K high CRI) on my desk for examining parts and wandering around the house at night.
  • BLF-348 for belt or pyjama waistband EDC, also good as an impromptu headlamp on my baseball cap.
  • Fenix E05 (3-mode version) on my keys as a backup - low CRI cool white is more efficient and modes let me conserve power or splurge as needed.
  • Astrolux S41 Nichia 219B 5000K high CRI clamped to the wardrobe as a desk lamp.
  • Nebo Big Larry as a work light (to be replaced with a BLF LT1).

Everything else? Backups, superseded, toys or parts :slight_smile:

Zebralight SC600Fd, Zebralight H600Fd, Zebralight SC62w, Convoy C8 (one of six), and my Fenix CL30R lantern. Out of 65 flashlights, these are the only ones I wouldn’t give up.

Different lists would be for different reasons. As far as utility?

I haven’t found the perfect light yet, but from my current collection I’d keep:

  • A small and efficient headlamp with common energy source. This would be my H52Fw (although higher CRI would be welcome).
  • Something for the pocket, EDC-able. Efficiency over fancy features. Currently a SC63w, but higher CRI preferred.
  • A thrower. My only real thrower is a C8+ XP-L HI, but that will be replaced once I have found something better for a reasonable price.

This would be my core set of flashlights. If I have the chance to take more flashlights, then probably something programmable with lots of features (e.g. something with Anduril; D4S, D4V2) and something inexpensive, sacrificial (e.g. S2+).

.... ... if the ones currently on my front burner were the first ones I ever saw?

Less than I have now, because I would have skipped all of the ones that I bought in the past that have been technologically superseded.

But, I still have all of the 20 performance lights that I bought, plus the five meh lights that I bought before I discovered the exhilarating world of performance lights. This, due to sentimentality. The oldest lights in my collection bring more years of happy memories.

I need 15 lights, to satisfy a matrix of very small, small, medium, large and huge size flooder, power thrower and dedicated thrower.
