I think this is a subject that one thinks about more after you’ve tried out a lot of lights and found what suits you best.
How many lights do you commonly use? Feel free to describe how they are used.
I use a Zebralight H51f for everything from changing light bulbs on my porch to hiking to reading.
I use a Thrunite TI on a necklace at night just to have a light that is handy when I need it. It’s kept tucked under my shirt.
When I go for a walk around the lake I generally don’t use a light but have one with me for when I do need one for a minute. This is generally a Proton Pro.
That makes 3 that are the most common. I also have a Surefire 6P with XM-L for emergencies kept in my nightstand but it’s a “light up the backyard” light as well.
I have an aspheric thrower that I take hiking/camping or for any time I want to spot something.
In addition there are two lights kept in the car. A single AAA light and a headlamp.
That’s a total of 7. I have a plastic button style key chain light that is usually on me so I guess that’s 8 actually.
I have more but other than for diving I don’t need any more and rarely use more than those. Practically speaking, I could get by just fine with the first three.
I have a 3 mode P60 style XP-G that I haven’t mentioned here and I could use that for everything if I had too and yet I didn’t mention it here because I actually rarely use it. It now seems too big 
What kind of pattern do you see with the lights that you use and they way you use them?
I need 75 flashlights and hopfully in a few weeks, I will need 80.

1xAAA for neck light I wear with paracord around my neck LOL. (Fenix E01)
2XAA for walking dog and all other uses. (Fenix LD20)
Other lights I buy are variants of these lights/uses...so if I get LD22, its to replace LD20...If I buy a 1AA light its to have a smaller LD20...etc.
I might look into getting a zebra light (headlight) later, but now have no use for it.

iTP A3 R5 upgrade that is always with me, I use it for almost everything around the house or in the car.
L2i with UF XM-L for times I need more light in the house or at the yard (mostly feeding the cats at night).
MC10 knockoff and UF C88 in the car for emergency or repairs.
UV 380nm dropin for finding stains and for fun. :)
Several fauxtons around the house for blackouts (some of them even painted with GITD paint).
Several flashing lights in the car for night safety (including an Akoray K106 I keep only for its "double blink" type strobe).
A cheap headlamp I never use but I always think is useful.
And obviously I need more. :)
Need?
Well a big light for outdoors with lots of light pollution.
A number of AAA lights equal to the number of key rings I have to keep my keys company - they get lonely without a light around.
A headlamp for all those jobs that need free hands. Or more light than my desk has when doing fiddly stuff.
A light to live in the car - preferably a waterproof headlamp as well. It's always raining when I need to change a wheel...
Relatively low powered but long-running lights in the (very unlikely) event of power failure. Around here the power has been out twice since 1990 - other places I've lived have been less reliable.
Like Haggai, a UV light for fun.
I could make a case for around ten. I own rather more than that. I can find or account for 133 lights though I don't know where a couple of my favourites are. Somewhere I'm missing my Zebralight H50 - easily my favourite and a Trustfire F22 which is another of my favourites. They are probably around here somewhere.
There are two more coming but I've not bought a lot of lights (only three this year so far) in the last year or so - I feared I was going to have over 150 of them by now.
Edit: Found some more - now up to 136. Of which I probably use 20-30 regularly.
11 including my edc. I keep a flashlight in every room in my house except the bathrooms.
Don reminded me about the headlamp - add that to my list.
If gcbryan asks this kind of question again I think we need to have some type of intervention .Maybe a few serious flashaholics just show up unanounced and sit him down and confront these issues .He needs more lights and needs to stop being in denial .

Haha…I’ll sit down (unrestrained) for any intervention where the door prize is a Tiablo.
I think my questions might hit too close to home for BOAZ however regarding too many lights.
This time I focused on how many do you use (as I find it interesting to read about all the different ways people actually use their lights).
Some focused on “need” and might be feeling a little “guilty” …not my fault
Now can I have that Tiablo? Aspheric throwers and headlamps are my drugs of choice.
