How to remove SolarForce L2N bezel ring?

Hi,

I just got a SolarForce L2N host, and also got a stainless steel bezel ring, so I want to remove the original bezel ring.

But, I can’t figure out how to remove the original ring? There’s really nothing to “grab”.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the ring?

Thanks,
Jim

I usually use a rubber jar opener to "grab" the bezel ring or you can use needle nose pliers and put them in the bezel recess and twist. If you really want to,grind a piece of flat steel to span snugly between the recesses then you have a bezel tool you can use over and over again.

I simply put it in the palm of my hand and twist. Usually loosens right up.

Darangel,

Just to make sure that we’re talking about the same thing, the “bezel recess” you’re talking about are those kind of depressions on the inside of the bezel right, right?

But those depressions are round, so using prongs of the needle nose pliers (or tweezers, I guess) tend to slip when you turn, and scuff up the ring :).

I also tried a spanner wrench. Mine looks like this:

and the 1st couple of times I tried, it didn’t work, but once I got it adjusted to the right width, so that it was wide enough to be really snug on both sides of the ring, I was able to turn the ring!

I was really worried about scratching the ring, especially since this was a brand-new L2 host, but I think that (being worried about scratching) actually made it harder to do :(…

Anyway, thanks. I now have the new ring on there, and it looks pretty nice :)!!

I just press the bezel on my thigh and twist. Wearing some heavy fabric jeans helps

Use an old leather/suede glove. Pliers over leather if it doesn't budge.

Steve,

Does that actually work? Or were you kidding?

Thanks,
Jim

Hey ohaya,

I didn't mean to kid you. I just checked out the L2N and saw that it has a flat bezel. I thought it had a strike bezel like the L2 and L2P, and you can take these off like I described.

Hi,

No problem… but ironic, since I was trying to replace the flat/original bezel with a stainless “lightly” crenelated bezel :)… Thank goodness the old spanner wrench worked, but I’ll keep this in mind, plus BIGWOOD’s suggestion, in the future.

Thanks,
Jim

One of those cheap three-prong watchcase wrenches actually works pretty good. You just have to be careful and make sure the prongs don't slip and scratch the bezel if the bezel is on super tight.

Hi,

That’s pretty cool… I’ve never seen those before. Can you adjust the “spread” as well as using different “teeth”? Or is the spread fixed (since different tailcaps, etc. would have different spacings)?

I wonder if that is what Niteye uses for removing the tailcap (my other thread)?

Thanks,
Jim

I bought one of those 3 x Nichia 219 dropins from Illumination Supply / EDC Plus. It comes in a polyethylene container. The bottom is molded to be a L2N bezel ring removal tool. I don’t know if they sell that container separately.

I was looking at that drop-in, but didn’t realize what that “60DC” was. Darn, for the price of that drop-in, I could almost buy two of the SRKs!

Jim

Yeah, but you would not get a bezel removal tool in the deal…

Acck… you got me on that one :)!!

Jim

Yes, the spread is adjustable.
