Hp35r

Hello new here but joined to ask question maybe get some help/advice on changing beam pattern on hp35r by fenix. Quick story bought the old hp30r v2 amazing light loved it but had switch issues in 4 weeks of light use, returned to Fenix they replaced with new version, basically not happy with it but no other choice, as old model discontinued. Can anyone give me advice on what diffuser I can use on it to improve the flood and spotlight beams there more throwy than the old model. Was going to buy diffuser from materials direct. A Eliptical diffuser but not sure on what degrees to get on horizontal and vertical axis. Don’t want to loose to much distance just want to lose the hard edges on both beams and give me a slightly wider field of view. I’m guessing there’s people out there that have done this.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Seems like a fairly straightforward application for the “DC-Fix” window privacy film. Comes in a couple of textures, I forget what the “favourite” here is… “Sand”?

@Boaz sells small sheets of the stuff.

I don’t know of any anisotropic films, perhaps one with “feeding” or other linear patterns might provide more diffusion left-right than up-down, but I’ve never seen this tested.

Thank you for the info, I will try that.
Think I’m going to buy another of the older version. Or maybe wait for ledlenser new h21 coming out in September don’t know anything about it yet just says 10,000 lumen.

If you just want to blur the edges, you can take clearcoat spray and ever so lightly spritz the reflector to go from smooth to orangepeel.

I love diffusion film to turn the most hateful beams into floody goodness, so if you want less effect than that, OP seems the way to go.

But try “mild” DF and see if that does ya.

For that matter, just try a layer of scotchtape. I drove people buggy putting that on peoples’ calculators to make the numbers ever so slightly blurry.

Welcome to BLF Gav1

Softer edges may be possible, but I dont think wider is doable.. and there is always a loss of distance when adding diffusion.

Check with our respected senior member @Boaz for his thoughts, he offers DCFix films of various densities and is the resident expert on available options.

I’ve tried various bits of plastic made little lens to fit good fun actually, I like making things, tried misting the plastic with lacquer, sanding vertically to try spread the beam which actually worked turned the spot into and envelope shape, I’ve given up for now as I want to test this light in a big field which I’ve yet to do. I hear ledlenser are bringing out new headlight h21 supposedly 10,000 lumen so I’ve signed up to there mailing list to get info early and possibly buy. But still very disappointed that the fenix hp30r v2 failed on me in a month as I thought that light was brilliant. Thanks again for you help.
