Sodium ion batteries are being made now. While sodium is more common that lithium there is still not enough of it. It is only a matter of time before we start extracting sodium from salt. I dare say the earth has too much salt. But the problem is what do we do with all the chlorine? You can use it to make plastic. But plastic breaks down releasing the chlorine. Some one has invented a chlorine hydrogen battery. The release chlorine problem might still be there so we will have to regulate the industry. Hydrogen chlorine batteries work at -70C. This is about the low temperature limit of Siberia. Antartica of course gets colder. There is no question we need a cold weather battery.
