I got scammed on Ebay

So about 20 days ago, I ordered a pair of shoes from Ebay. I was already suspicious of the seller, but noticed he had ~80 feedback. Also, they were cheap, very cheap. I paid the $15 and was given a tracking number. The days go by, I occasionally check the tracking, and it seems to be real.

Today, to my surprised, I received a small envelope in the mail from Hong Kong. Inside was a little silver coin. I was confused, cause I dont remember buying a coin.. and then I look at the tracking... and it was the same as the tracking as the one they provided for the shoes.

I was clearly scammed, I quickly started a dispute on Ebay, and escalated it. And now I'm waiting for the verdict...

What do you guys think will happen? I received the "package" but its definitely not he right item.

Edit:

Thank you for the responses, but I seem to have left sout some really important facts. Just days after the end of the auction, the sellers account seems to be disabled, the listing was taken down, I could not even find the auction on my "purchase history". It was as if the listing never happened. But i got the confirmation ebay, and money was deducted from my paypal. I have contacted the seller many many times, but each time he replied with the same words "it has been sent, check your tracking at www....com". Dispute was started, so let's see how it turns out,

Pictures of silver coin.

"Liberty" on the head's crown, "One Troy Ounce", ".999 Fine Silver", "Silver Trade Unit" on the tails.

Looks real? Any idea of its worth?

-----------------

EDIT: Ebay has closed my dispute in the favor of the seller on the fact that "We have the tracking number, and it says delivered". I will attempt to appeal.

--------------------

EDIT: I have appealed and Ebay has ruled that I must return the coin for a full refund.

I would have to return the coin the the seller with tracking. What would be an affordable method to return the coin? All I know of is USPS Priority which is $30 already...

Thank you!

I think paypal will say "Wrong item received? Please send the product back to the seller if you want a full refund"

That has happend to me....

So if I do return the coin, Ebay should refund me money right? Given I have proof of refund and receipt? Goodness.. China is... blehh.

My guess is you where not scammed. They probably mixed up packages and sent you the wrong item, I have done it myself.

You should have at least contacted them first and to see if they would send you the shoes. If its a cheap item most sellers won't require you to return it. The other problem is ebay has now taken the money out of their account and is holding it.

So at this point your asking the seller to send you an item that has not been paid for. So they may not be willing to work with you.

Insist that sending back the POS liitle junk is not worth it, however youre willing to do that at sellers expenses.

have you contacted the seller before opening the dispute?

assuming it was an honest mistake, and you had contacted the seller, there is a good chance he was refunding your purchase

now, you and the seller will have to wait until eBay will give its verdict

and forgetting the money for an instant , all that extra time that passes you are feeling that someone has done you wrong.

my best advice, and of course it is merely my perspective:

give the seller a chance to communicate before involving third party, problems at eBay can be solved that way

anyhow good luck at your case solving.

I think it can be solved, so be patient. You have up to 45 days to open a case and 60 to give feedback, nobody wants a negative, so I think think there is a solution.

Good luck.

I'd check-out the value of that silver coin. If it was an expensive collectors piece you could well have the upper hand.

Well, in that case, I think there's no way you can loose this case/dispute, many times that happened to me, and I won the case immediately because there's a good reason for taking down the article that way without traces (like if it never existed). I think you shouldn't worry.

lol, yeah  That coin could be more valuable than shoes  I wouldn't mind receiving something more valuable than what I bought actually :P

If that's the case then yes you did the right thing, If others have complained about getting FAKE / Counterfeit items then this is what Ebay does. They delete everything associated with it. Apparently this is a tactic Ebay uses so people can't see how many fakes are actually sold. Make sure your complaint is also a Paypal Dispute.

I would not recommend sending the item back. You can say its more expensive to send the item back than its worth. Also if you do send it back and they don't pick it up its considered the same as if you never sent it back. This happened to me with a fake memory card.

Good luck, the system is mainly set up so Ebay and Paypal don't loose money. Ebay and Paypal "protection" only covers you if they can get the money out of the sellers account. If the seller has cleared out their account then your S.O.L.

It would be interesting to see what the coin is worth

Post a picture of the coin...

It might be a lucky coin. Rub it three times and make a wish!

I took and uploaded picture of the silver coin, lol. Not quite budget, but anyone knowledgeable of silver? So far, no replies from Ebay.

Well, you know what, that coin's probably worth $15-18 dollars. So... you at least got something of equal value. Why they sent that out god knows.

silver is worth $30 usd an ounce ??

hmmmm $45 http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=98600

Check the weight, it should be at least 31.1 grams.

Take the coin to a shop and see how much they will give you for it.

Looks like a very old coin, but then again, I know nothing about coins. Tongue out
