Thanks to mothers alloy polish i have been spending so much polishing my equipment i haven’t had any time to polish knob while watching mothers hahahaha. That one may have taken it to far!

Once tarnished BLF D80 Reflector. I sanded it down first. I finished the reflector of with 1200 grit sand paper. You could use higher grit for a better result. Then polish and we have a winner!

So far it has worked on metals i have tried to polish. After trying so many different polishes and cut and polishes this one is probably the best. It gives it a shine no other polish can.
Here is an Astrolux SS triple with a Ledil Cute-SS that has the grid sanded off. Worked up to 2000 grit and polished with Mothers.
Process is no different than aluminum, but definitely work up to a very fine grit, wet sanding. Clean and check glare with a magnifying glass. You will probably do it again to achieve a glass look. Paper products work better for polishing. Some use newspaper, I use Bounty paper towels. Plastic will also leave residue like aluminum but it is not black. Harder to see because it also is white.
If you have wet sandpaper, a squirt bottle (water) and Mothers you can do headlights without buying a “kit” marketed for that purpose.
Can anyone compare it to flitz? I’ve used that and brasso only. Wondering if I should give this a shot. Can’t get the results the o.p. got. +1 on using newspaper. It’s cheaper than bounty and doesn’t leave lint behind. I’ve also tried toothpaste, baking soda and Comet ™ cleanser
Try it! Widely available, any autoparts store for sure. Should be about $5 for the small tub that lasts a long time. Not much is needed.
Real prep work is in the sanding to get the best polished surface.
Opinions will vary but from coarsest to finest it’s Comet, Toothpaste, Brasso, Flitz, Mother’s, and best of all is Simichrome. You can’t expect any metal polish to transform a rough surface into a mirror but if the potential is there a good metal polish can do amazing things aesthetically.

And there’s more to it than just the products used: for alu an old T-shirt and some pressure gives an excellent finish when rubbed in small circles buffing out with a clean area last. Have your sunglasses ready if you’ve never tried metal polishing; you’ll need them :sunglasses:
