I need a ~1.5A driver with a potentiometer

Salut Messieurs!

For a project (M21B head with a 519a on a swan neck as an extra light for a microscope) I need a driver that works on a single LiIon battery or 5V and is adjustable via a potentiometer.
I have some of these drivers here: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005001297847362.html
but they don’t work too great since the potentiometer isn’t really working fine enough, it’s at 100% at like 60% of the way and shortly before that it makes a jump from 600 to 900mA.
Also, 900mA is a bit too weak. The head can cool 1.5A easily.

Does anyone know an LED driver that has a potentiometer to adjust it and works fine with my layout?

I’ve always wondered if one could wire a potentiometer into an Anduril 2 driver…my brain’s getting old, and I can’t remember if I asked or was replied to… @thefreeman ?

@L4M4 another thought, could you salvage the guts from an old dimmable bulb and run a basic dimmer slider/knob switch to it?

Maybe reading THIS might shed some light upon your issue.

This. Replace the trimmer with logarithmic potentiometer. Play with the values to see when the current will be limited to 1.7A that you need. Set the trimmer so you have the desired output and measure the value of the trimmer then get a potentiometer with closest possible value.

Or find the sense resistor on the board and change that to get the desired max output and still change the linear potentiometer with a logarithmic one.

I have thought about this endeavour a lot the last hours and I think it would make everything much easier when I just grab one of these drivers: AA / 14500 / 16340 driver for T2 T3,12 groups - Convoy flashlight and use them for this. Saves money, space (of which I have not much) and first in line: hassle.

I have a little 3d-printed “block” with 3 potentiometers in it, one for the ringlight, one for a light underneath and one for the extra swan-neck light we are talking about. So it would have been nice to have 3 potentiometers there, but having one button instead doesn’t ruin my life. :robot:
