Who should I ask to fulfill this request? I’ll even pay a down payment as I understand research and development for my dream might take time
I’m looking to commission a custom high-output (lumen) floodlight, and budget is no object.
Here’s what I’m hoping to achieve: Power Source
• Preferred size and batteries:
• 2x 26650, 3x 18650, 4x 18350, or 2x 21700 batteries (all in parallel) or something else that results in an EDC size—jacket pocket size is fine, but nothing too large.
Emitter
• Favorite emitter: FFL707A (must be the correct bin).
• No green tint—has to be rosy.
• Turbo mode: CCT between 2700K-3500K, achieved by mixing tints ranging from 1800K-2700K to 5500K-6500K.
• Ideally: 3 triples, each with its own trimix, but if a smaller range blends better, I’m open to it.
• Turbo tint goal: Under 3500K, ideally 2700K-3000K. Additional Features
• RGB Functionality: Something between the Lumintop Rainbow and the RGB Critter 2.0 for light painting.
• Fidgetability or Multi-Use Aspects: Important to me.
Materials and Aesthetics
• Materials: Something cool like Damascus, multicolored anodized, copper, etc.
• Aesthetics:
• Inspired by Manner Timeback and Loop Gear SK01.
• Unique, artistic designs are highly valued. Optional Features
• Tint ramping: Would be great, but not mandatory.
• Your professional input is highly valued, especially for achieving excellent blending and overall functionality.
This job will require hundreds of hours of labor distributed between several talented people with varied skillsets. I’d say your best bet would be to approach an established company like Loop or Manker with a budget of maybe $30k and hope for the best.
I doubt being too picky would put off Vihn, he’s just always been a very busy person, especially with two young children.
The reason I floated his name is that in addition to be an accomplished flashlight modder, he’s done exactly what your asking in creating a flashlight from the floor up.
From concept to design, prototyping and repeated testing of several iterations (as I recall), working with multiple parts suppliers and OEMs, and then extensive testing until his first dream light became a reality. He’s done it!
However, when I checked Vihn’s website before suggesting his company, that aforementioned first model and other designs I believe he once had in the pipeline weren’t listed.
I didn’t follow his progress for years, so I don’t know what came of those projects. Regardless, he’s done what you’re looking to do.
If your unable to work something out with Vihn, as mentioned there are many OEMs that could get it done. However, if you’re not willing to customize something from an OEMs current stable, that budget will truly have to be no object!
Best wishes with your endeavor and please keep us posted.
Welcome to BLF LashFlight. I hope you find some lighting options that meet some of your wishlist.
Jackson is possibly a good contact to investigate, because he is experienced with FFL emitters and mixed LED builds.
But he does not machine custom hosts, his skill set is focused on custom LED installs, in existing Emisar hosts, which do include multi channel options. Emisar does not offer Timascus, but they do offer copper and brass hosts (which imo are impractically heavy.
I do not think your multi battery expectation is realistic. Suggest you focus your selection on existing Emisar hosts, and limit the modifications to the choice of LEDs installed. This is where Jackson excells.
with all due respect, suggest using correct terminology. Do not use the word Tint when your meaning is actually Color Temperature…
Thanks for your long reply I’ve since learned that it’s gonna cost way too much I was willing to spend like a couple grand I guess I was being naive in thinking I coulld have it done for a few grand. I’m a noob
