I Need Some HID Help

My YEZL 38/50watt HID light isn’t working right now since I took the 50watt bulb out and tried putting the 85watt 6000k bulb in it to see if it would work. Well I never could get it to work right with the same battery that came in it. I think I tried switching the battery pack since the 85watt one I have is rated at 8700mah and 50watt is rated at 6000mah. Well while trying all this an alluminum spacer with an inner ring aluminum spacer fell out of the tube of the light. I have tried every way I know how to put this spacer with a very thin inner ring aluminum spacer inside of that outer spacer back into the light to get it to work like it did. The best I can do to make the light work is to not tighen the tailcap all the way for the bulb will light up if I do even with out pushing the button to activate the battery to turn on the buld like you normally would. What I now have to do, is not tighten down the tailcap until I want to use the light. Then I can make it switch from low to high and which high I know for sure is green and low is blue, and then if I click it again there is no color on the backend which normally if working correctly means the light is off, but the bulb now continues to burn. The only way I can shut it off is to back the tailcap back out until the light shuts off. And to store the light I’m afraid the light may come on in the case, so I completely remove the battery. Now I don’t like doing this, nor do I like having an HID light that does this. On my 85watt HID, there is no spacers in it. I noticed, too, that the 50watt 6000mah battery is just a little shorter than the 85watt 8700mah battery which I guess explains the spacer. But I can’t figure this out.

Can anyone on here tell me how to fix this problem and make it work like it did before?

So the 85w works, but the 65w doesn't and you need to get the spacer back in? Pictures would definitely help, but from what I can tell the spacer probably goes on the back of the battery.

No the YEZL 38/50watt light isn’t working right since I took it apart to try and do a bulb switch to convert this light to 85watt. The lights are exactly the same exact dimensions from the best I can tell. The 85watt bulb is a breeze to switch out. I tried putting the spacer behind the battery, in front of the battery which is the same as putting behind the ballast. I have tried putting it in front of ballast where I believe it goes, and I still can’t get the light to work right.

I’ll take some pictures of the sacer and the very thin one that goes inside the outer aluminum spacer.

Here’s a few photos.

Those 2 spacers are directly in front of the reflector and bezel.

That silver washer with the 3 screws by it is what holds the bulb and ballast in the head of the tube. That washer with the 3 screws sits inside of the cutout lip on the 2nd picture of the inside of head. You screw the 3 screw into the top of ballast where the holes are on it.

If I understand this right, have you tried placing the spacer before the washer with 3 screws?

Yes.

The washer(s) will actually fit on the inside of the tube before the ballast and come to a stop at the tip of tube just underneath coutout lip. There is a cutout section on the inside of tube directly underneath the cutout for the 3 holed washer. I have tried leaving the washer out. That don’t work. I have tried leaving the very thin washer ring out. I put the washer directly undeneath the 3 hole spacer on top of the cutout in the head and that don’t work. I put the spacer at the end of battery before the tailcap. Nothing seems to work. I guess I’m gonna have to try something else or buy another light altogether which totally sucks. I have no place to send this light back to. No address was in the manual that came with it. I guess I’m gonna have to eat this one.

I am not sure about the purpose of the mod. putting a 85W bulb into a 50W light is still 50W, it’ll not increase power as it’s the ballast that controls the power.

However, the throw after swap in 85W bulb may be reduced. Most of the 35-55W bulb has about 4mm arc, the 75-100W bulb has about 5-6mm arc, the longer arc reduces throw.

I switched out the bulb /ballast all in one is what I call it. Correct me if I am wrong.

Don't give up ILF! At the very least you have a twisty HID light. ;) Have you tried placing the spacers in front of the ballast? (Just making random guesses now)

This is what I call the battery pack.

http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1034

The battery pack on the 50watt light is 6000mah.

The battery pack on the 85watt light is 8700mah.

Yes.

If Ican’t fix it, I will probably just give up on it and buy another. I may end up giving this one away.

I always have the bad luck.

If you're giving it away, I'll buy it off of you!

And the 85 watt will easily out thow this 50 watt. So that isn’t true about the throw.

Well let me try to do some more tinkering.

I guess I got the bad end of the rap on this one.

Ok, good luck! PM me if you want to sell it and that way you can make some of your money back. ;)

Ok I finally fixed it. I took the 85watt bulb/ballast 6000k bul and put it in the YEZL with the washer and then put the 8700mah battery and it worked like a charm. So now all I got to do is get another 8700mah battery pack. I have one on order already. That’ if I don’t get scammed. So now I will have 2 85watt HID’s.

Glad/Sad to hear you got it working again. ;)

I did have to put the aluminum washer before the ballast. Now all 3 modes work on it. I’m ecstatic. Finally.

I do need to get another 4300K bulb. It will throw better and put out more lumens then the 6000k bulb.
