I ~think~ I have enough laptop batteries for the "severe weather" coming my way

Doh! Oh well, I thought I was being smart to draw they down a bit to get them under 4.20v so they did not degrade. I guess not a huge deal because my Xtar only charges them to 4.16 anyway so it was going to happen at some point. :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks.

Yes I do agree that cell that rapid discharge are junk. But I have tested many cells with depleted capacity of <40% maintain a voltage above 4.1v three months after charging. We can agree to disagree. My pesonal preference is to discard any salvage cell below 80% capacity that does not hold voltage.

True, capacity and self discharge are different. I was talking about ability to supply large amounts of current.

Actually, that is a very good thing! You cells will last MUCH (2-5 times) longer if charged to 4.1V instead of 4.2V The loss in capacity at that voltage is minimal.

And then if I take the batteries out and put them back in it keeps charging to 4.3. (I stopped the test then as it scared me)

IIRC, read somewhere that NASA charges to 4.05 for the longest life.

I find trustfire flames are pretty cheap, I think under $10 at DX for two.
So far I have 12 of them, and 10 Panasonic 3100s.
Might order more… even though I’ve never experienced a blackout for more than an hour. But you know… just in case the world ends or something, at least I’ll have a few hours of sight.

Can anyone identify this one?

Batt

Those are CGR18650EA, they have a maximum discharge rate of 2c or around 5.2 amps. (Their capacity is 2550 mah)

You can see the datasheet here.

Gosh I just love the progression of technology! :stuck_out_tongue: (thanks!)

Happy to help. :D Those cells actually do fairly well at high discharge rates and at a 5 amp discharge can still put out around 2450 mah. Enjoy the new cells.
