There have been so many different flashlights manufactured to date especially since the boon of LEDs began that I wonder if our very own BLF Flashipedia is now warranted.
Along with the same structural concept of Wikipedia where expert/knowledgeable volunteer contributions are made to initiate, update/maintain, and if necessary correct or augment data, it sure would help me wade through all the myriad of flashlight brands and their offerings.
We could maybe start it off with Acebeam, its entire product line, specs, and other crazy stuff that typically only BLFer types are interested in.
This thing could get giggly biggly huge though in short order.
It doesn’t try to be an encyclopedia but you might like my flashlight database. It exists to help you “wade through all the myriad of flashlight brands and their offerings” and I try to keep it as complete and correct as possible.
… and it would take giggly biggly huge amounts of effort to build and maintain.
So people mostly just do reviews instead. There are much more appealing incentives for writing reviews, like talking with people afterward and getting review samples of new lights.
Well ya know I was kinda hoping that somebody had already done something like this in their retired spare time and were just holding back for the right moment.
Fat chance, huh?
Parametrek is sorta it! :+1:
Watt do we got? Sumthing like 26,000 members? I figured if each one of us voluntarily put in a paragraph for our fav flashes why this could get done in about 10 years.
Well I had in mind the Wiki concept cuz you could then have bios of ‘Flashlight Giants’ of the industry. Ya know write ups on the ToyKeepers, Endermanns, of the flash world. More than just raw spec type data. Stories on the BLF group builds, the architects, jazz like that. And pics gaga-lore.
Well I’m pretty sure much more interesting dirt could be dug up on ya in a Flashipedia format.
To wit……
“Yeeeeeeeah, I remember dating ToyKeeper in high school. Was never even back then ever seen without a flashlight. Then there was that time when we were caught messin’ around in the dark and she blinded Mrs. Spudnowner with a burst of XML -T6 housed in a custom Eveready Captain right between the ….”
