Ice Storm Tonight

I live in Upstate New York and it looks like we will be getting a Ice Storm tonight.
The Utica/Syracuse is right on the edge so it could be fine or it could be very bad depending on how the wind blows.

So I have started my Generator and filled it up in case I have to power up the furnace, grind coffee beans and other important items.

Each room has at least 2 Flashlights with fresh charged batteries.

I need a Headlamp for times like these………

And we just got back from Florida on Monday and my Wife is not very happy right now.
When it was snowing in Virginia Monday morning and she told me not to listen to the Garmin and listen to her and she was heading me South I should have followed her directions……………

Passed through here last night. We lucked out with only wind, rain, and twister threats.

Ya’ll keep that cold stuff up north where it belongs.

We’re expecting high winds and up to 25mm of ice accumulation this weekend here in Ontario. Already some isolated power outages, but it hasn’t got too bad yet. I have plenty of flashlights, a gas cooktop and hand grinder, and good home insulation, so I’m not too concerned. Also a Subaru Outback with winter tires I’m mostly worried about my mum’s old maple trees which dropped a good bit of material during the last ice storm a few years ago.

Yeah, inch and a half of ice on my driveway in Michigan. All lantern batteries were cycled and charged up yesterday.

Even with Winter tires ice is nasty to try and drive on.

Yes, the power is on for now. Our area of the city has underground power lines, so power doesn’t go out often. Unlike where I used to live in Virginia, where the state tree is the telephone pole. Slightest thunderstorm and the power would be out for hours. Hurricane, for a week or more.

So how did everyone do last night ?
We only had rain but on some of the outside metal has a light coat of ice one them.
Temperature keeps going between 33 and 34 all morning.

This is what it looks like outside my back door right now. There’s about an inch of ice under that snow, and that snow is more like ice pellets. Ice pellets coming down fairly hard right now. Still have power, and internet. At least it’s not freezing rain, or we’d have tree limbs down everywhere.

Those Ice Pellets are a Killer to shovel or snow blow.

Traffic is very light around here right now, how the roads are OK for people to get to work in the morning.

Those ice pellets compress into ice on the ground. The area around my truck in the driveway is about 3 inches thick ice.

Around here, they keep the main roads pretty clear, but the neighborhood roads are very bad. Depending how much longer this goes on, they may call off School for the kids tomorrow. Lows in the mid 20’s tonight.

Pretty big storm system.
