Aspheric zoomies waste so much light to the sides…what if we turned that to a feature?
Paint the head white inside.
Make the sides diffuse white.
Add a head cap that keeps the lens clean but also - is flat white on the inside.

When extended - such light is somewhat similar in operation to BLF Lantern.
Remove the cap, somehow cover the sides - it’s a regular zoomie.

That would be called a Coast flashlight…. :person_facepalming:

It’s going to be easy for ideas to get lost in a thread like this, as there can easily be such a wide variety of ideas discussed that it’s hard to keep track of. But why not throw out my own, which I know is a want shared by others around here:

Emisar S1 or S1A - a super compact, single emitter, 16340 or 14500 powered 1+FET light with a similar form factor to the Olight S1, but based on the drivers and firmware Emisar uses. I bet it could do 1200+ lumens initial output with a high CRI LH351D.

I’ve also got a bunch of tint-ramping ideas, but they’re non-trivial to implement.

A zoomie with the led covered by a thin slice of opaque glass with a sticker or some light blocking plate that’s been laser cut in a batman shape (as small as possible). Focus the zoomie on the batman sign for a bat signal.

Been meaning to do something like that for ages but never get around to it.

XHP-70 or XHP-50 type of LED or an array of micro LED with the ability to control each die individually, have one in 6500k another in 5000k, another in 4000k and another in 3000k and have a driver that can control the tint from cool white all the way to warm white…

A multi-head light with servo motor(s) to control focus for a tight beam at variable distance and variable flood area. It would require a master control board to send control signal to servo motor(s) and slaved drivers. Focus and angle of heads would be variable.

How about a round black/white TFT display for a lens, that can be programmed remotely for different patterns (like the bat signal)… even animated patterns?

I have found that flashlight side switches are very often hard to find in the dark. I think they should carve a finger notch on the opposite side of the side switch. If I can catch that notch with my fingers, my thumb will automatically be aligned with the side switch.

I’ve seen those. I was thinking something more like an xhp70 in a 1405 zoomie.

But then it becomes a pure flooder. My thought was to still have a regular zoomie with every cd available. And make “lantern” just a secondary function.

Agree, annoying that you lose all those lumens when zooming.
Just like we focus our throwers by playing with the hight of gaskets sounds way more efficient, so why dont we make a zoomable light where we can adjust the hight of the led in the reflector to get focus or spill?
I almost don’t dare to say it, but just like the well known American company we all know did it for over 30 years by turning the head, but without the donut ? :innocent:

In general - donut is natural with out of focus reflector. It just doesn’t work well.
Super-heavy OP may avoid the donut but will reduce throw.
Another company did a 2-sectioned reflector where one section was fixed and the other was moving…
