I am 50 years old and my vision is in the range of 20/750 to 20/800 and I am only correctable to about 20/35, I also have had glaucoma since I was 37.
Soldering for me at one time was fun, but for the last 20 years it has been the bain of my electronics world! :( I have tried many types of magnifiers and have found one that works for me. I can even read 0805 components now!!!
These were less than the cost of a good driver and they work! The LED platform pivots and can be aimed, the lens will swing forward and back to allow for a good head angle and they fit well.
I would really recommend these to anyone that cannot see parts well!
I’ve looked at the type shown in the OP, but I’ve never thought they offered any advantage over my reading glasses and a headlamp. I have reading glasses in both 2x and 3x handy around my place. What Ive been using is a flip down visor style that lets me quickly change magnification up to 8.3x without removing the device from my head. Since I can wear reading glasses underneath I have even more magnification choices available. It also uses 2 AAA batteries instead of coin or button cells so I never have trouble finding the proper size.
It’s far from perfect though, the head gear is uncomfortable, the ratchet size adjuster won’t stay where I set it, and the tension screws where the visor pivots loosen up every time I raise or lower the visor and must be re-tightened. I’ve tried switching out the headgear with some from an old welding helmet but it didn’t fit.
I’d love to get something similar that was a higher quility but so far I’ve not found anything suitable.
I’m constantly reminded how lucky we are to be getting old at a time in history where there are so many things that make it easier. I’m so glad I didn’t have to get old before headlights, cheap vision aids, and generic ibuprofen.
Nice call on the 9892C, 1dash1. I ordered one from Amazon for $11.99 and it arrived today. Looks like it’s going to be really comfortable to wear though not as convenient to change magnification as my old flip down visor.
I bought mine from MicroMall a Amazon Marketplace seller. Shipping was free, I ordered on Saturday and had it on Tuesday, that’s fast.
