I’m new not only to these here forums but to the wonderfully overwhelming world of LED Flashlights.

So it all started with me having this nice little NEBO apparently a CSI Edge 50 Model for several years. I think I picked it up at my local ACE hardware store at a register display. Well that has now long been confiscated by ‘da Wife’. Which has lead me to seeking a replacement, so I should be thanking her correct :P.

I’ve come to realize, that I have this overwhelming desire to do product research these days before I pull the trigger on any new purchase, whatever the item may be. I suppose large in part because I want to feel some comfort in knowing that I’m spending my dollars wisely and making sure I’m taking care of the bang for the buck factor. After briefly (like several hours over the course of 3 days) looking on Ebay, Amazon etc I realized there is a plethora of choices. I also could not help but notice alot of complaints on various models, especially the cheaper XXXfire stuff regarding QC issues and knockoffs, that led me into digging deeper. So then I had to ask myself, self what am I looking for in a new light, am I just looking for a similar replacement model to what I had or something other?

Well I quickly realized there really isn’t a silver bullet for what I want, form factor alone I find myself wanting at least 3 sizes (pocket, handheld and large stick). Then I got into the diode types, battery types and now I make way to this site and get insight that there are even more things to consider like drivers, modding options, etc. I think I may turn into a lightahaulic. I soon gathered that for me to get a good grasp on things, it will take quite a bit more reading but I still wanted to get a new light in the interim. I went ahead and splurged on what I thought would be a good starter setup. I’m sure I will change my mind later but hopefully not in the form of a regret just simply a shortcoming possibly :P.

So here is what I’ve initially settled on: a Convoy M1 Cree XM-L T6-3C 2-Group 3/5-Mode LED Flashlight, a Nitecore IntelliCharger i4 v2 and Two Panasonic NCR18650B 3.7V 3400mAh batteries.

So now here I wait for my new goods to come in and I’m already wanting to get a few more toys but first I need to self educate a bit more, so much for the good old ignorant days :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome to the asylum! Your choices are sound, with the Convoy M1, i4 charger and batteries.

I started out similarly, but with a C8 host, and bought my own emitter and driver.

Then I bought another C8.

Then I bought an M1

Then another M1

Then a S2.

The S2, M1 and C8 make a good package but it lacks a really good thrower. The quality of all of them is quite good.

There has been at least one study that showed people are actually happier with less choices. For most, the joy with the final purchase isn’t dependent on finding the exact best item. Once you purchase an item you begin to judge its value as higher (because its now yours & you’ve mentally invested in it).

I’m sure your judgment of your purchase can go down hill if you discover an actual better, similarly priced item that you didn’t know about / consider.
Once you make a purchase, move on, don’t look back or second guess. Be happy!

Convoy M1, Great choice. :bigsmile: Always thought it was the nicest looking convoy. The styling on the fins is cool. Panasonics are the best.
