I'm looking for a good budget DMM ~ 30-40$

My old no-name DMM died (actually not mine -but dead anyway).

Do any of you know of a good deal (for the Black Friday sale maybe) on any of the Chinese pages?

Based on the reviews and suggestions here on BLF I have narrowed my list down to (I'm open to other suggestions):

UNI-T UT136B - $18.89

Vichy VC99 - $33.98

MASTECH MS8229 - $48.89

UNI-T UT61E - $61.62

I would like to keep a budget at around $30. I'm almost certain that I read a thread about the UNI-T UT61E at a price under $40, but I cant find it again

Any suggestions?

I'm no expert but I have heard good stories about the Uni-T brand as good price/performance.

I got one of these UNI-T clamp meters in the 11/11 Aliexpress sale.It has not arrived yet.I paid $37.73.Includes 10A DC lossless(clamp) and temp measurement.
I saw a post in the last 2 or 3 weeks that said Mastech and VC used cheap components and uni-t were better.I have a VC 99 and it seems fine so far,but who knows?

I think this was meant to be in this thread?

MRsDNF - I think you are right - nice review in the link, but dagum he's got an annoying voice :-)

Thanks guys - I'll se if I can find a deal on a UNI-T or the Vichy VC99

Since Hestbech has his answer let me expand the question:

What would you recommend as the cheapest reliable, reasonably accurate DMM?

Phil

+1 :-)

I like my meter that takes 9v batteries. Lasts a long time even if I forget to turn it off. So I’d go uni. Also I don’t see the 10a port on some of those others.

dudunphy - what meter do you have? Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "Also I don’t see the 10a port" - Is that because you think I should get one that can manage 20a?

Found a good deal on the UNI-T UT61E - $38 plus shipping

I have owned an UNI-T UT30C for 10 years. So far so Good. The only complain is the cable of the test leads. The conductors are thin and the jacket are not durable which will crack at the joint with the test lead. I vote to the UNI-T.

I have an innova I bought at autozone. I use only simple Fluke meters at work (won’t read dc amps :frowning: or I’d bring it home) I’m really not knowledgeable about these little electronics meters. But the 18.99 one you showed is much like my innova. It was that mastech that looked like it wouldn’t read high amps.

If you have the $$. I like that one Billy x linked. Clamps are an awesome way to check amps and that one has a DC amps setting unlike my fluke.

But are not very useful when you get down to milliAmps (Some clamps can work down to a few mA, but with very low precision) or lower.

Price over convenience, I can always build a shunt for testing higher amp ranges and upgrading the test leads is a given on a budget meter. Mention of the clamp meter jogged my mind and memory- I have one of those that came with a box-lot of tools I bought. I will dig it up and see what it is and if it works. Sometimes even I get lucky!
