I’m looking for an inexpensive light to keep in my daily driver Jeep. I’d like to use it when offroading at night and any other tasks that may come up. I’d like a lot of throw with decent spill and 3 modes (H/M/L). I’m unsure of batteries, I have several 18650’s, 17670’s and 17500’s but am not opposed to running conventional AA, C or D cells, but at the same time I don’t want this light to be VERY big. 2 cell mag sized would be big enough…Any suggestions?
Going off of the fact that it will be kept in a car, I would say look at the Defiant Super Thrower. It is a bit big and only has one mode but it is cheap, throws well, sturdy, and uses normal non-lithium cells.
I don’t own one, but you might consider a SkyRay King since you’ll likely want more flood. Love the DST, but it is a good bit bigger than a 2C.
Myself, I keep 2*CR123 lights that will also take 18650 backups in the cars. Mine tend to be XPE with more throw and little spill. Lithium primaries tend to last longer for me.
I usually carry several lights in my day bag for a range of flood and throw; more when I know I’ll be out at night.
