Inova Bolt - anyone taken one apart?

I was digging through some old boxes and found this old single LED 2XAAA light I didn’t realize I had. The only marking is “Inova” so I searched here and found it’s called a Bolt 3A. I would post a picture and/or a link to their website but right this minute I’m stuck posting from an XBox 360 (computer died, yay more expense).

Anyhow, it’s a decent-looking little light, and it simply does not work. I can remove the tailcap and the bezel, but the lens seems to be attached to some kind of screw-in assembly which also seems to include the reflector, emitter, and driver. I have no idea how to take that off, as only a tiny amount of threads are showing - not enough to get a grip on by hand, and I don’t want to risk using any kind of pliers on it for fear of ruining the threads.

I’d like to see if I can repair it, or maybe even upgrade it a little bit if it’s just busted anyhow. Having a tough winter financially, so I’m trying to do these little projects that don’t take much. Plus, again, I kinda dig the look of the light and I think it would be a nice backup or nightstand light at least.

So I was just wondering if anyone has taken it all the way apart, if maybe you have any tips.

Also, do you think this belongs in the modding sub-forum (for taking things apart) or the AAA sub-forum (because it’s a 2XAAA light)?

Haven't seen one in person though, so I can't help you. :(

That would be the one. Thanks for the pic, Scaru.

I took a little more time with it and gave it a more thorough cleaning (you know what old Alkalines do to things). I also realized that I was inserting the batteries backwards. Man, I feel silly. It’s negative-first, so in my defense, it’s a little unusual, and unmarked to boot. Also, I know I never bought a $40 AAA light (not that I wouldn’t now…), so I don’t even know where it came from. So there’s my entire defense. Go ahead - you’re allowed to laugh at me. S)

Good news: It apparently has protection against reverse polarity — and it works. I would still like to have it apart. I really want to get into every crevice and clean it all.

Also, 25 lumens may sound impressive…but…wait, no it doesn’t. It doesn’t look it either. I’d still like to see what (if anything) can be done to this light to make it better, so if anyone knows much about them, please drop a line.
