I hope you are aware that, unfortunate for this group buy, during fabrication of my filters, Kaidomain started selling a 42x1.5mm ZWB2 filter? A bit thinner than this one but it will fit a C8 (and being thinner it may even have a slightly higher transmittance).

I just sent out a PM to list members, if you like I will let you know if any will be leftover.

I would prefer to support your endeavour, if you are stuck with any leftovers.

My C8 has a 2mm glass, but of course 1.5mm could fit with some ingenuity (e.g. filing down the bezel).

The small ZWB2 I bought for my Convoy S2 UV, from BG, at a price I was happy with, subsequently turned up on GB at the same price but for x5. Not that I had any use for five.

The glass I got really works well, it genuinely works with minimal absorption of the (I think 385 nM) light and blocks everything visible.

What I would really like is one to fit an SRK. I have one waiting to be fitted with UV LEDs but no filter (even thought of fitting x4 small filters in a carrier, with a bit of grinding to fit).

I suspect the ZWB2 glass is cheap as chips, just cutting it out into the desired sizes is the expensive bit.

^ I would go for the Seoul Viosys 365nm led that kaidomain sells: it has among the best outputs, up to 3A the output still increases, the die is small so good for some throw, the Vf is about ideal to use it with a direct driver (you get between 2 and 3A depending on the resistances in the circuitry) , and it is sold mounted on a DTP copper 20mm board for just $7 shipped.

It’s going into an early Thorfire C8 with buck driver, about 2.5A at the tail, if that doesn’t work well I could try an A6 FET driver, but maybe safer with a linear 7135 job.

My Convoy has x3 7135 i.e. about 1A, and by some accounts that’s as much as it’s LED can take. Looking forward to much more (and more horror looking around the house, I have a dog etc. …)

I did make a build with Sofirn C8F, LD-1 driver and 3x SeoulViosys from Kaidomain and posted some pics in djozz LED test thread here and here.

It only pulls ~3A on high (thats 1A per LED…) from a fresh-from-the-charger Samsung 25R, although I used a PhosphorBronze spring and 0.5mm² wires. Given that the driver is set for 5A on high, direct drive should really not be a problem with this triple…

I got my filter yesterday thanks Djozz :+1:

I used the first version of the Sofirn C8F as host and a driver from the original Eagle Eye BLF X6 SE.

I have build some UV flashlights before but this is by far the most powerful, it only draws 2.12A on high, so I guess a thicker gauge wire and a DD driver could push it past 3A.

After a long and busy week I was finally able to fetch a very special parcel from the post office.
Inside was a perfectly well protected filter and some of djozz translucent s2+ gaskets which he was so kind to add to the package.
Thanks again for making this happen. I’m very curious about the effect of the filter.

I will most likely change the driver from the LD-1 to a 10x AMC7135 linear driver with ATtiny13a. As it shows 3.5A on max will be perfectly fine and I need a better mode spacing than the LD-1 can provide - and my personal UI preference with short click/press up, long click/press down.

Received my KD order today and assembled my first UV Triple. All C8F except for the emitters, UV filter, and 18 gauge leads. Works great. Most powerful UV I own and I love having modes. Can use low for closer stuff and even moonlight for real close. Thanks again djozz.

The C8F LED isolator rings seem a bit tall for the emitters. Next time I open it up, I'll open up the top of the rings with a drill bit.

Trying to figure out the best way to implement this filter, which UV emitter it would most benefit.

I have 4 UV lights, from the Nichia 233B to 333A and the LED Engin LZ1 as well as Jaxman’s U1 which is also a Nichia emitter I believe (276A, took it apart and looked, it came with the black glass lens). My LZ1 is a zoomie, built in a small Solarforce light utilizing an aspherical lens (AHorton) It’s mounted on a copper heat sink in MattAus’s copper P-60 pill. My 233 is in an S2 shorty. The big 333 is in a solid copper X6.

I was thinking of putting this lens in the copper X6 but realistically the biggest Nichia UV emitter doesn’t produce much visible light to block, so it’d be pretty much wasting the filter. So the question is, wait on the 3 Seoul UV’s I ordered yesterday from Kaidomain or rebuild the little S2 light with it’s 233? I know the 233 is probably not wasting much either, the LZ1 is likely to be the lossiest of my UV emitters and would benefit the most but it’s in a pretty neat build with the AHorton aspheric and I probably shouldn’t change that one.

So, what to do?

Thinking about building a light body from scratch to house the triple Seoul emitters and fit this lens. I should probably state that I don’t particularly like UV emitters in a reflector, prefer mule and no artifacts. Will the triple Seoul’s work well this way?

Hi Dale,

I can only speak about the Seoul, but they profit enormeously from Djozz filter. I linked to a beamshot in post#91, thats the straylight from a Seoul triple @3A in 2m distance on a white wall in a dark room - before the filter arrived.
Now, with the filter I cant make a beamshot… just imagine a dark wall in a dark room where only tiny bits of dust reflect teeny tiny amounts of light. The straylight is about gone, yellow and blue parts, while the intensity of the UV light is still very strong.

This was exactly what I hoped for, by the way, and I‘m more than happy.
