Intl-Outdoor's 5A 3-Mode 2.7-4.5V Circuit board

Hey guys, I just got this driver (link) a couple of days ago and used it to drive a triple XP-G2 P60 module, thought I’d share with those who have bought this driver and those who like me, were baffled by the modes. According to the website’s specs: 5A, 3 modes, 17mm in diameter, I thought they finally released a driver perfect for those triple P60 modules!

However, after fiddling with it for a couple of hours, I’ve discovered that this driver actually has 4 mode groups.

To change modes within a mode group, do short taps like you would any other multi-mode driver.
To change mode groups, select the mode indicated below in bold, wait a couple of seconds for two quick flashes, then almost immediately AFTER the flashes, turn off then on again (within 1 second)

1. 100% - 50% - 10% (Update: Just measured current to emitter+ at 3.0A - 1.5A - 0.3A)

2. Ramping (flashes at the following levels): *1* - 50 - 100%

3. Medium - Patterned Strobe - Continuous strobe - SOS

4. 100% (single mode)

This driver also remembers modes even after battery removal.

I did a quick amperage test at the emitters, and I’m getting 3.0A at 100% with the triple XP-G2 setup wired in parallel, driven with an IMR 18650. Sadly, not the stated 5A, but might be an interesting alternative for those bored with AMC7135-based drivers!

This looks like the driver used in intl-outdoor’s d26 dropins. I began ordering those dropin’s even before Foy’s nice review, and have put together several lights with this dropin. Many are getting lots of use on duty belts, so far none have failed. In testing though I’ve never had the thermal protection kick in. This included 3 amp runs for the full charge of a 3100ma battery, well shimmed to the host with aluminum strips, but still very toasty. The voltage protection does kick in everytime.

You have measured 3A on a triple XP-G2 in parallel. Are you sure you leads are thick and short enough for such a high current at a low voltage?

Could you measure the output on a single LED?

anyway, that is just a setting. too easy to randomly change the setting by pocket pushing the button or whatever.

i’d rather mod it to make it permanently just one or two mode.

Thank you, Moses for testing this great little driver! I've been eyeing this one up but was hesitating due to size. Will it truly fit into a regular P60 pill? If so then this is the driver I've been searching for for quite some time.

I agree there is that risk. But not too many 1 mode drivers out there. Or 2 mode for that matter.

In my hands I have the 4 amp version of this driver potted with Fujik as tight as I could get the two boards together. Overall length is 9mm. The minimum measurement from the top of the top board to the battery board where it sits in the pill (bottom of the battery board for a comfortable fit in the pill (allowing for the wires to the led to coil somewhere) would be 8mm minimum. The standard p60 pill I have is about 5 mm. In summary this driver will not fit in a P60 pill.

Thanks. I had a feeling it might be too high for a standard pill. Fortunately for me, I am more concerned about base diameter as most similar drivers I’ve found are 19mm instead of the claimed 17mm. At 8mm tall, its not much different than a Nanjg AK-101 with extra 7135 chips stacked 3 high and a heck of a lot easier than all that extra soldering.

I just got the digital verniers out as the measurements I made above were with a ruler. The battery board measures 17.05mm. From the base of the battery board to the top of the driver (some sort of chip) is nearly 9.5mm. The top board measures 15.9 mm if you file the high spots of where the boards were joined together in manufacturing. Does that sound confusing? I hope this helps.

Just tried putting this driver into a P60 pill and I couldn’t get it all in. As MRsDNF mentioned above, the bottom board’s diameter will fit a P60 pill, and there’s still a little space on the sides of the driver if you need to file it down. But the stock wires that connect the top and bottom board together are quite thick, so unless you change those wires to something thinner it might be very difficult to cram it into a P60 pill. FYI, all the wires that came with the driver are 22AWG.

Ah thanks! I’ve seen ATMEL on the product photos and hoped for an Atmel MCU, but it’s only an EEPROM IC. Pity, I had hoped to be able to reprogram it.

These will fit in my P60 blanks (at least they should). Moses should be able to confirm if he's the same guy I'm thinking of...Bit disappointing that they only seem to put out 3A though. Very misleading and means I have to contact a few people to let them know. Bugger.

Yup, I’m the same guy you’re thinking of :bigsmile: This driver definitely fits your P60 blanks. With the 3A going into the LEDs, that’s what I got with the stock 22AWG wires. I’m waiting for some thicker wires to come in so I can find out if it’s the driver or the wires that are causing the under-spec output.

Ah sweet! Well...I find it odd the driver is only providing 3A given the 4A version has been tested here and gives roughly 3.8A. It's not the stated 4A, but it's better than 3A!

They're out of stock of both drivers at the moment so I have 2 weeks to decide what to do, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you can get out of it. If you can't hit 5A, or at least get close then I'll go back to stacking my 7135 chips :(
