Is it worth buying this light

I am noob and I am looking for a decent flood light more than a thrower ( I want to be looking for stuff and want good light to iluminate the area that I am looking) and I came across this deal:

http://www.amazon.ca/Lumens-Flashlight-Torch-Battery-Charger/dp/B00AFQKFAY/ref=pd_cp_60_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0JGJPVW6DWNR0XE78C4C

What do you think is this a good deal or should I spend my money on something else (sugestions accepted)?

It’s a C8 with a bad battery and charger. I’d recommend spending a little bit more to get a good battery and charger, those are essentially just dangerous.

Check out the Mountain Electronics website, you can get a variety of decent lights (including a good quality C8), and he carries excellent batteries and chargers. Descriptions are good on the site and can help you decide what to get.

that would be a C8 clone (ultrafire?) and more a thrower than a flooder.

for close illumination in your house look at more floody lights, ie Convoy S2+. It is a small light but also with a 18650 sized battery. (fits in your pocket)

Kloepper Knife Works was faster than me

If you are not already familiar with lithium-ion cells
(and that link is selling you a “Trustfire” cell that you would not buy if you knew about li-ions)

I’d recommend you get a light that uses NiMh rechargeables (Eneloops or comparable), or ordinary AA cells.
Alkaline AAs leak.

You could spend $2 and get a considerably better light for what you want —- flood, finding stuff near you.

Look for something like this:

or “buy it now” listings
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?\_from=R40&\_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&\_nkw=cree+zoom+flashlight+AA&\_sop=15

The two you’ll see there are either “SK68 clones” (mostly) — the ones with all the ridges and sharp corners,
or what we here call a “#3 zoomie” (thinner and smoother).

Both of them use one AA cell, come with usually three levels (low, high, and strobe) and “next mode memory” (whatever it was doing when last shut off it skips to the next one).
They give a wide flood and a narrow zoom, sliding the lens forward and back.

You’ll be happy with one. Or three or four. For a while. That gives you time to read more here.

They’re not real Cree LEDs, they’re not nearly as bright as they claim.
And they’re fine for what you need. Use one AA Energizer Lithium (non recyclable) or one AA NiMH rechargeable battery.
Don’t spend more than $2 or $3, it’s a lottery thing, they don’t really know what they’re selling, but they’re good enough.

Others will have other opinions.

I started off with a light and battery combo like that, mine was quite a bit more expensive than that.
After incandescent maglights I thought it was the best thing ever.
Then I found blf and discovered what I’d actually bought was at best mediocre and the battery - blue with 18650 on it, so who knows what lt started out as - was probably dangerous.
I then did plenty of reading on here, especially about battery safety and bought a couple of convoy s2+ from Simon at ali express, some decent 18650 batteries.
I’ve since bought loads of torches, batteries etc, but the s2+ is still often my go to light and my main back up light when caving as its nice and floody

So I too would recommend the s2+ , but buy a quality battery for it and a decent charger, you can go to wrong with something like a nightcore i4, but avoid the nitecorn ones

Word of warning though, before you know it you’ll suddenly find yourself with a large collection of flashlights and a constant urge to buy more
Strange but true
