You’re not the least bit cynical, are you? Most judges do a good job of staying fair and unbiased, and the twelve jurors help insure fairness for the vast majority of litigants. Although, it could be a regional thing… in certain mega metros like your own, and maybe even in some tiny podunks where everybody knows everybody, all bets could be off.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t as far I have seen when out with people that had such devices, the same device had different reactions from different dogs.

my interpretation

the sonic devices are Heard by the dog
what the dog does next depends on their conditioning

the sound gets their attention, but what they do after that depends on whether the dog has learned that after the sound comes a treat, or some skunk piss

for the OP
I think adding a dog whistle and some treats (or skunk piss) to the walk,
could prove an interesting option to train the dog

I agree just blowing a whistle wont change the dogs behavior, its just a way to get his attention, and to train him to associate the sound with either a reward or a punishment

but those humans probably wont mind if you convince their dog that you have treats and whenever you blow the whistle, the dog runs out to greet you

The only light I’ve seen that would do the trick is the trunk light from the Malibu in Repo Man. How you’d get a dog to open and look in a car trunk is another issue…

well considering if it fails id be dog bit . i wasnt going to take the risk but im glad i asked for advice because it reminded me how bad a dog bite can be. then i started to think dogs are from wolfs and wolfs cn kill huge animals . if i walk the ther way there is no dogs but man o man the terain is so hard to get a solid foot on the ground

Then probably the dog isn’t a “Natural Born Killer” worthy of a 40mm ’tween the eyes.

He got some licks in, and drew some blood hitting the person on the head with the flashlight. Such a feat would be almost impossible if he tried to do the same to a dog. A dog can and will move his head much, much faster than the person/cop can move his head.

The ideation of punching or kicking a charging attack dog on the nose is nothing more than idyllic fantasy.
