Is there any point to GITD tailcap switch boots?

I mean seriously in order for them to glow you need a second torch to shine at the boot before you set it down in the dark. And then you only have a couple of mins before it no longer glows……

Have I missed something??

They look cool when all of them are glowing when I turn my light off in my curio…
But I agree with you….

Why do you only have one torch on you? haha. I never understood either, I always wanted one that actually lit up.

Don’t know about the performance of those chinese GITD tailcaps, but decent quality GITD stripes (like in fire exit signs) will glow for many hours. At least in real low light conditions (confined space, dark woods) they are bright enough to locate the light for a quite long time. If the tailcaps don’t do that, they are worthless. I agree on that.

The GITD tailcaps on my lights are the same cheap DX ones everyone else has but mine work well enough. They have a faint glow which is sufficient for me to locate the light on the nightstand beside my bed. Even though they aren't bright, it's enough to see them by when my eyes are acclimated to the dark.

I put a gitd boot and oring on my flashlight i keep in my pouch at work. It came in handy once. I was in a windowless maze like mechanacle room when another electrician killed the main to the building killing all the lights (the battery in the emegency lights was dead) and so there I was standing in PITCH black and across the room I see a faint green glow of the tailcap.

That being said it would be nice to get one that last hours like the exit sign stickers instead of the 3min or so you get out of the 20cent chinese O-ring.

The GITD effect is only a byproduct for me. Black isn't my favorite colors for flashlights, but often the manufacturers don't give me a choice - in this case I would take a colored tailcap.

I have some 16mm in blue (for my Solarforce), 14mm orange and 14mm GITD green. My last DX flashlight has a red tailcap, which looks great.

Maybe filling a clear curing resin with lots of GITD powder and casting some lanyard beads would be an option?

That is exactly what I like, I also have some GITD self adhesive foil which glows 3 times as good as a tailcap and I sometimes apply a bit of it to a flashlight to grab it in the night to play around.

+1
I thought the same way. during resting position (head stand) the boot cap is absorbing light so whenever light is out suddenly, it will glow for easy reach.
sure that scenario won’t work during outdoor adventure. that’s why flashlight series for outdoor rarely has GTID boot cap. same happen to tactical series one. the casual and daily lights are the one mostly have GTID feature whether o-ring or boot cap.

Maybe it is different if the lights were sat in the sun all day? I have yet to read of caps that glow all night long though. That would be useful alternative to tritium inserts.

I ordered the DX ones that come with the orange and black rubber boots and they don’t glow very well. If you have a quality one, they actually glow quite well and serve their purpose well.

I just wish they made more colors, makes it easy when telling the wife or kids to go grab a light to just say “get the green button one” instead of “grab the L2P 3-mode with the flat shiny bezel” and it takes them 20 minutes to sort them all out and still get it wrong.

Which color and size do you need? Solarforce mixed the size sometimes so I don't know, which size is up to date on the L2P.

You can get:

14mm in black, blue, orange, green (GITD), white, lime

16mm in black, blue, green (GITD), white, pink

Maybe some more colors are available (if you work with glow in the dark powder). I have never seen a source for the red tailcap of my DX flashlight.

I like to keep my little D25C Ti clicky on my nightstand at night. It comes with an awesome GITD tailcap. Once the bedroom lights get turned off I can easily see it glowing for most of the night. Hours and hours it’s visible.
In daylight it has an ivory color which works great with the Ti body. But at night its bright green. I wish somebody sold that type instead of those always green, and still weak ones most sellers have.

Wow, so there are decent GITD tailcaps. It’s a pity the cheap spares from DX etc. are so poor quality.

rly?

My Eagletac D25C Ti clicky’s very good GITD tailcap. Just took these -

.

I wish there were black gitd caps.

They do shine a really small amount in the middle of the night when you’ve just woken up. It sometimes takes a couple seconds, but it does help sometimes.

Although for me, it was the combination of customizing a light for cheap and doing it easily.
