Specs certainly aren’t everything, but the iPhone 5s generally has a faster GPU and CPU than pretty much every android phone. Apple made a big leap ahead with the A7. The A8 chip in the 6/6+ is faster still, but Apple seems to have invested most of this generation’s improvement into power efficiency.
I’m kind of done with phones though. I doubt I’ll have any trouble keeping this next one for 3 or even four years (unless I break it). I’m really interested in new form factors. I may get a watch out of curiosity / professional-interest, but I’d really like to see what else people come up with in this era of really cheap hardware. I think I’d love a couple of huge eInk sheets to hang on my walls, and then maybe a few smaller ones to lay out on the table/desk. I’d really like a computing environment like a workshop, something that can take advantage of the fact that I can turn my neck, and move around.
Its strange to me that apple is so late to the game. I promised all my friends 5 years ago when they made fun of my samsung note and i said that all phone screens would get bigger. I dont mind apple products. But they remind me of something that belongs on cpf forum because generally you cannot insult an apple user. They think their phone solves divorces and makes them special. Its weird to me that samsung makes the screen for apple but they will never give them a better resolution than their superamoled. And times are changing now since the samsung patent of mass produced graphene. The next galaxys will be flexible. And apple will have to pay a premium to have the same.
It is a bit misleading. On paper the iphone 6 appears to have the same specs as the Nexus 4, and the Nexus has a quad core chip as opposed to a dual core on the iphone 6. However if geekbench is anything to go by than it would suggest that the iphone 6 has as much processing power as a Galaxy S5, and much more single core processing power than any other phone. I’m not sure how accurate Geekbench is so I take that with a grain of salt.
It’s as much about the cpu speed as software optimization. But lets be honest, there isn’t much to optimize on the iphone 6, since the UI has pretty much remained unchanged since 2007
thats a nice one. i like that it swivels. but i think most of the time, i will be holsting the horizontally, so i would rather have the button open in horizontal figuration.
My Note 2 was laggy as hell as it got older, even after a full factory reset to new. My S5 is fast as hell and not a bit laggy. The only problem with Samsung phones is the Touchwiz interface they insist on using. If they used Android as released by Google it would fly.
I absolutely hate my iPad2 that I have for work. It's tedious to use, hard to find anything in the sea of icons desktop, and simply unpleasant all around. I just don't get it. What I'm really looking forward to is getting my Surface Pro 3 with i7 proc, 8GB RAM, and 500GB SSHDD. Good by 7 lb laptop!
Yeah, and even if higher resolution were the whole story with android lag (it isn’t), it isn’t much of a justification when you consider that a lot of those phones have more resolution that the human eye can resolve at the distance people typically use their phones at. Those extra pixels helped someone grab more marketshare among people who think more must be better. That competitive advantage quickly disappeared as others raced to meet the specs. Now the pixels just sit there, doing no one any good, burning power and performance. Design involves tradeoffs. Some tradeoffs have long lasting implications.
I got my iphone 1 a couple of days after it was released because AT&T was shutting down their CDMA service in a few days. Today I got a text from AT&T saying that they were shutting down their service that the iphone 1 needed on 30 Sep… wheeee… a whole week’s warning.
Stopped by Apple store and snagged a iphone 6. Did have to stand (needlessly) in line for an hour or so. Apple really needs to revamp how they handle things. A friend ordered the same phone online and they are saying it will be several weeks. BTW, apparently no big screen or 16 Gb models are in stock.

Apple’s more simple and more into “style”, and more expensive for what specs practicality you get almost all the time. But sometimes that’s worth it to some people.
About the new phones fragility and bending though, no way I’d buy it even if I wanted one now. I sure hope the Note 4 wont bend like that, I’d think the same thing about it.
