Is this a real or fake XP-E?

I received a cheap light in the mail today and wondered what LED emitter this might be - XP-E or XP-E clone?

How can I tell a fake - from my Google Image search this one seems pretty real.

Sorry for the crap pics, all I have is a cell phone with me.

Yes, it is a laughably cheap light, the LED star is just snapped onto the plastic reflector with a plastic clip… But I bought it for next to nothing, with the intention to just to use the body as a host for a project that will not use any of the guts at all.

It looks fake, there is three squares in the corners where there should be two squares and a round dot.
I guess the tint is awful?

Also, the picture is not clear enough but there is another element which in fakes seems to not exist, the 3rd lead.

Fake for me, I do not see the rectangles marked on the die. I do not see the third lead either.

Edited due new better picture, now I see the rectangles marked on the die. Still fake for me.

Better picture?

It has:

  • lines on the LED (it is 3 “lines” of LED substrate)
  • two lead wires
  • three rectangles on the die under the dome
  • two large and one small squares on the corners.

Tell us how much did you pay for it, I think there will be an answer.
Looks fake because of it’s size, color, and should it be round in the corner instead of small square?

Google Image search for XPE gives this, I see a circle instead of small square on the corner, and I can see the third lead wire now.

So thanks for making me look closer, it certainly is a fake.

Oh yeah, the tint is awful.

Like I said, I was only interested in the body shell as a host that I’m going to chop up pretty significantly. Just curious if the LED was real b/c at first glance I thought it might be, which surprised me (I was assuming it would be fake).

yep the missing circle dot is a give away I think. I have two old XPE emitters from 5-6 years ago (before they days of counterfeiting) and they both have that circle.
